I lay in bed thinking about what my father told me.

How do you like it here?

You know that your mother liked this place too when she lived here.

'Mother?'

I'm not your foster father I am your father.

Why would he tell me that so soon? Couldn't he just wait until I'm adjusted.. Is this what he meant by 'until I get adjusted, then I'll have to stiffen up and follow some rules.'

I'm already sick of this... I need a new friend.

I walk down to the garage and find a bike with a helmet.

I get on, put the helmet on and start petaling down the driveway. My dad walks out on the front porch and yells,"Where are you going?" I look back at him and don't answer. "Be back by dinner!" He yells. I heard him enough to make out what he said.

I petal all the way out the driveway and make a right, back into the town that was just a couple minutes away from my 'house'.

I find a couple girls pulled in a turn around spot also rising their bikes. I pull in there to ask a stupid and fake question.

"Hi, do you know where Western Kentucky Avenue is? I just moved here and I'm trying to get around." I say shyly.

"Yea, it's that way! Go past two traffic lights and make a left!" A girl with blonde hair replies!

"Thanks so much!" I turn to go away and she must know I'm looking for a friend because she speaks up.

"Hey, I'm Charlet!" She says and smiles!

"Im Saylene!" I say!

"You have a pretty name!" Charlet says.

"Thanks, but I best be going my dad will be worried!"

"Oh, let me ride with you!" She says while smiling.

"Sure!" I say happily!

We ride all the way to my house! We make small talk and when we are at the end of my driveway she insists that she rides with me until I'm all the way to my house.

When my big house is in view she looks at it and I know she's trying to keep her jaw from dropping.

"Come back anytime!" I say.

"Oh no, I wouldn't want to intrude!" She says.

"It's completely fine!" I say and she smiles!

"I guess I better head home now that I see you home safely!"

"I'll see you later then." I say.

"Yeah, don't worry I'll be back!" Charlet says sarcastically, I laugh.

We say our goodbyes and I pull my bike back into my garage and head up to my room.

My dad calls me down for dinner an hour after I'm home. Do I really have to face him if I don't want to? I don't want to.

But I have to.
