"Where are you?", Sam yells at the other line as Build, known as Bui to his friend, hurries to the front door.
"I'm almost there!", each day is like this.
He sets an alarm and wakes up still an hour late or he presses the calculator instead when he's drunk a night before leaving Sam to do all the work he's missed.
He then presses the 1 on the elevator and inside the car, Sam is holding a coffee with a tired expression.
"Uh, good morning?", Build then takes the drink of his friend's hand and gulps it in one go.
"Yum, delicious and free. You're my best friend forever!"
"You're a bastard as ever, there's a coffee shop outside why do you have to do this to me every morning."
Sameo throws the cup only to find Bui greeting the old woman who sells flowers and then holds the children's hand as they both crossed the street and waves them goodbye after.
It was funny how his friend can be childish sometimes.
He maybe tardy but he's caring and kind and that's what matters when you're working in this field.
Making sure that every human crosses to the other side, safe and sound.
"You have to wake up early from now on Bui-"
"I know, I know because you already found someone better than me." he sulks thinking about the fact that after a decade, his friend is leaving him to get married.
"I'm getting married today... Are you sure you don't want anyone to accompany you, I can recommend another from the agency."
"I've been working for 30 years, I think I can handle being alone."
Three decades and still unmarried, he even has a nickname among his subordinates. Pertaining to a bird who has only one mate till he dies.
"Oh you're Mr. Hornbill alright."
"Ouch my friend, that stings! Don't add insult to injury!", he chuckled and hugged Sam seeing the halo on a dying woman's head who was in a car crash ahead.
Their wives are humans and they only meet them when their death has arrive. It's painful but it's said that the married life happens in the heaven where they meet their family too.
He then glances at Sam and winks at him who mouthed see you soon. The bitter feeling of being alone again settles into his heart but he's not giving up. He has to find his Bride and meet his family again.
