Hey guys! I know it's kind of late, but this entire thing I need to talk about it VERY important.
There has been a new bill going around that will potencio ally be taking affect.
The bill is called 'KOSA' (Kids online Safety Act)
I know that some of you may not want to invest youself into this, but this bill is very problematic. This act is supposedly to protect children, (any minor under the age of 18) in the US from basically using any adult ish website or app.
This act basically puts restrictions on EVERYTHING you use. As for wattpad, ao3, twitter, tiktok, instagram, twitter, tumblr, etc. Every single app will be getting restrictions. It gives your parents a chance to access your messages, apps, deleted search history, calls, EVERYTHING.
Many websites and apps may be blocked, if they are deemed 'unsafe' for kids. This entire act will restrict you from doing many things that I'm sure, (if you are a reader regularly on wattpad, ao3, etc) enjoy, and shove them down the toilet hole.
From what I know, you'll have to put in some form of ID to physically use anything on the internet that is deemed 18+. This doesn't even include JUST smut, this includes stuff about politics, school shooting info, history, and so much more.
This will affect not JUST fan fictions and entertainment stuff, but also any type of school project that may require some research on deep, morbid history topics. You WONT be able to research anything the government doesn't want you to.
Your phone, everything you do will be COMPLETELY visible to your parents. Any messages, including discord, or Skype, or even MySpace, WILL be affected.
This will prevent you from accessing any needed resources, and this WILL give the government unprecedented control over the internet.
ANYTHING, ANY app that has a US server, will be affected, including games like roblox, fortnite, subway surfers, and who knows what else.
It DOESNT matter if any app is from a different country,
Example:
TIKTOK is an app made in CHINA, But ALL US users MUST upload ID to use the app, simply for the reason that the government WILL sue these apps for showing anything that they seem 18+ for children.
Example;
WATTPAD is an app made in CANADA, however US users MUST STILL have to be 18+, with an ID to PROVE they can even use the app in the first place.
This law, yes it does only affects the US, but any website that is US based, (which is many,) shall be affected too. THIS WILL AFFECT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.
Sign this petition, and call your senates and reas off the script the website offers! stop KOSA! ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO SIGN, SPREAD AWARENESS.
