Chapter Three

I didn't sleep much during the night. The thought of home flooded my mind when my eyes closed and every noise I heard had me tossing and turning. Another reason for my all-nighter was the people I heard outside my door every once in a while.

At first, it was just someone closing their door in a manner that was disrespectful to those who slept around them. Then, it was a door opening, followed by the noise of distant arguing that lasted for what felt like hours. Lastly, followed by another door slam.

After hitting snooze on my phone two times, I tiredly decided that this third ring was the one to get me out of bed.

"God, I'm going to kill if someone bothers me in the next hour," I threatened out loud to myself, massaging my face with my hands. I spaced out for a minute, staring out the glass doors leading onto a connecting balcony with the room beside mine.

"My" room had a nice white vanity mirror in the corner, dark wood floors, two nightstands on either side of the bed, a gorgeous small chandelier, and a walk-in closet that could fit at least 10 people in it comfortably. It was nothing like my room back at home. Instead, this room was like something out of a basic but classy interior home design magazine.

Our trailer was pretty small, but it had all the essentials. My room had plywood floors, and purple walls from when I was six, and wanted a princess room, a closet that could fit a couple of shirts, and plastic on the windows to keep in the heat during winter. It wasn't everything someone would ask for, but I adored it. It was my little room. No one ever heard about it or saw it. I was the only one who could feel embarrassed about it, the only one who could judge myself on it.

"Lucy," I was interrupted in thought by the sound of Kendall's voice at the door.

I shut my eyes tight, taking a second before answering, "Yes?"

She slowly opened the door and peered in, "Sorry, I know it's early, but I drink coffee in the morning and I was wondering if you would like some? I have different creamers like French vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut. If you care for those."

Rubbing my eyes, I smiled over to her, "You're okay and yeah that's fine, thank you. I'll take French vanilla."

"Your cup will be in the kitchen when you come down," she said quietly shutting the door behind her.

I put my hands on my face and groaned out loud. Why does she have to be so nice, especially so early in the morning? Everything is so nice in this house that it makes my body ache.

Quick steps came down the stairs as I took the last sip of my coffee. I had already gotten ready wearing a tight white blouse with a light pink midi skirt and white Converse, accessorized with gold jewelry so I didn't look all washed out. Kendall even complimented me when I came down saying, "You looked like me when I was younger, and I had everyone wrapped around my finger." Her comment took away a lot of my nervousness for the first day.

"Henry, is that you?" Kendall called from in front of me as she was scrambling eggs for the twins for when they woke up.

"No."

She put the fork down in the bowl and gave me a look, rolling her eyes, "Lucy is going to school with you."

"Who?"

Just out of sight, shuffling could be heard coming from the front door.

"It's really okay, he doesn't need to. I can just take the bus," I said trying to stop the argument before it happened. But it was already too late.
