HOME.

A place that was ever far away, a place for which her father had given his wretched life, his blood spilled on the fertile soil that would be his grave for eternity.

HOME.

A place which her brothers worshipped; day and night; for which their swords were ever sharp and their minds ever clouded, their battle-cries haunting their sisters even in their dreams.

HOME.

A place which her mother despised; a place where she had lost her gods (or where she had found them?) Her voice clear as the day when she sang her songs, praying to her gods, their names rolling off her tongue the same way she cherished her daughters; clutching them tight while watching her sons ride into their demise.

HOME.

Huts and a river near, crows resting in the trees and watching carefully, children's laughter in her ears, the sun burning on her skin; her mother kissing her cheeks while the women danced around the fires, men singing songs in tongues she cannot speak.

HOME.

A place that was burned to the ground, blood that sullied the earth, bones that were never buried and flesh that was torn apart.

HOME.

Found between corpses and blood, swords and arrows, kisses on her forehead and whispered words in the dark; promises that were never kept, dreams that never came true; the warmth she felt while she listened to the heartbeat that belonged to her home.

How unfortunate she had been, to lose a home THRICE.
