Kennedy
I pray I keep my courage as I walk over towards Deacon and Coco. I'm thinking that maybe a whole bottle of champagne might of been better for said courage rather than the glass I had and the glass I carried.
I can tell Deacon isn't interested, I don't think he's taken in anything that she's said, his eyes have never left me and now as I walk towards him, he's drawing me in like a moth to a flame. I tune into Akeala's hearing as I draw closer
"So Deacon your presence is missed at Mount Darwin's" Coco tells him, he just takes a drink from his bottle, his eyes burning intensely into me
"Well I miss your presence" she giggles
"Will you fuck off Coco" he speaks his first words to her "I'm mated to Kennedy"
"But what she won't know won't hurt her" she smiles a seductive smile "I'm sure we can have a good time and no one will need to know"
Oh that does it, Hold my imaginary bag; I don't give him a chance to answer
"I've been looking for you" I smile at him as I approach, I watch as Coco pulls her face into a grimace at my arrival "Fancy seeing you here Coco"
"I was talking to Deacon, so if you want to go and do whatever it was you were doing" she waves her hand dismissively at me
Watching Deacon's eyes swirl I link him "It's about time I stood up for myself Deacon, leave it be" Akeala growls in my head, She's ready and finally so am I, he nods his head slightly and I can tell he's not happy at the thought
"Are you dismissing me, Coco?" I ask as I cock an eyebrow at her
"Are you really still here" she mock shudders
"Why wouldn't I be?" I ask in mock confusion, all I need to do is keep my nerve. I feel anything but confident but I can't show her that or this will never end
"Because you're not wanted" She points a look at me and I watch as Deacon's hand grips tighter on his bottle
"It's ok Deacon I've got this" I link him
"You let me know if you need me" he links me back, I see his eyes glaze over, and within seconds our friends are joining our group
"I'm not wanted where?" I ask her "Do you mean I'm not wanted here at a ball that has been thrown in my honour?" I draw my eyebrows together letting her think I don't understand what she means
"I know what you have done Kennedy, you think you're so clever, don't you? Your mother is our Moon Goddess so you tricked her into making Deacon your mate" she smirks at me "Funny how he never knew he was your mate before you left for winter break"
"What can I say I'm a late bloomer" I shrug, I can tell it bothers her that I've not become a nervous wreck at her intimidation, if only she could see my insides I'm shaking with nerves
"You think you have everybody fooled with your damsel in distress act, but I've had you figured out from day one," she tells me, we start to draw a crowd and I can see that Deacon is linking with his dad whose face is showing his anger. My dad doesn't look much different
"I've never asked to be rescued," I say innocently
"You set it all up Kennedy" Her voice gets a little louder, trying her best to instil fear into me, it's working
"Set what up, Coco?" I ask
"That night in the woods" she seethes, she notices me blanching and uses it as leverage
"You wanted to give them a good time and then made it look like you were attacked" she smirks
"Shut the fuck up Coco" Deacon growls low beside her
