We All Got Bruises

My eyes shot open and i let out a small gasp. I was drenched in sweat. I sat up, allowing myself to catch my breath. These nightmares never seemed to leave me alone. It didn't matter how much time had passed, the guilt only got worse.

It took a few moments for my breathing to become stable, but once it did, i decided to get out of bed. It's not like i'll be able to fall asleep again any time soon.

I slowly crept out the door, careful not to wake the batch, and headed to the cockpit. I would always hide out there when i had a nightmare - Hunter knew of this and allowed me do it as long as i made sure to sneak in some sleep afterwards.

Making my way closer to the pit, i noticed someone else sitting there.

'I thought everyone was asleep. Who could this be?'

Whoever it was had been startled by my footsteps because they jumped a little, in their seat.

"Who's there?" A familiar voice said.

I walked closer to get a better look at him. The glow from the buttons were lighting his face up, making it clearer for me to see my favourite nerd.

"Tech?"

"Oh, it's just you y/n." He said as he moved his hands up to adjust his goggles, before sticking his nose in his datapad.

Taken aback by his comment, i ask what he meant by it's 'just' me.

He looked up and tilted his head, confused as to why i would need to ask that.

"It means, i thought you were someone else." He clarified.

He went back to doing whatever it was he always did on his datapad while I stood there feeling a bit upset.

'Did he want someone else here? Does he not like me?'

He must've took notice of my quiet, sorrowed state because he looked up from his tablet again.

"Do not take that the wrong way. I much rather enjoy your company."

I met his eyes and blushed, a smile growing on my face.

"Really?"

He nodded and looked down at his pad. Again.

Not knowing what to say next, i skip that step and instead sit down in the chair accross him.

"Did you need something, y/n?" He asked.

I thought for a minute. Do i need something?

"Yeah, actually. I do."

"Well, in that case," he said while putting down his datapad, "i will assist you as best i can."

I look at him then quickly look away, sighing.

'How do i tell him without making him hate me?'

"Do you think murder is ever justified?"

His eyes widened before answering the question.

"I believe everything that happens, good or bad, has a reason for happening."

Of course he would say that, he's the smartest out of all his brothers. That's why i like him.

"So, if someone um... killed their parents because they were abusive, it would be fine since they had a good reason to do it?"

"Y/n, why do i get the feeling you are not telling me something important?"

I swallowed a lump inside my throat.

It was the 10 year anniversary of my parents murder. But the story has a twist that not many people would expect.

I stared out the window, trying hard not to look in his direction since it would only make me feel more guilty. I didn't want to see the look of disappointment on his face when i told him.

I took a deep breath before opening my mouth.

"I- i killed them." I choked out.

At this point, the memory was all that filled my head, and soon, the tears started coming down. To make matters worse, Tech wasn't saying anything.

I buried my head in my hands and cried, failing miserably at trying to stay calm.

'Our friendship is over. He won't ever want to talk to me again.'

Depressing thoughts filled my head again.

Suddenly, i felt a warm hand rest on my shoulder. It eventually made its way to my back where it rubbed in a circular motion.

"Y/n." Tech said as he moved from standing by my side, to now kneeling in front of me.

My head stayed cupped in the palms of my hands. I did not want to look at him.

"Y/n, please." He pleaded.

He peeled my hands away from my face but i still looked everywhere except for him.

His hand reached my chin and he moved my head so it was facing him.

"Look at me y/n."

I did what he asked and looked him in the eyes. He didn't appear to be mad or upset. Instead, he had a look of concern on his face. He pushed his goggles up, allowing me to better see his handsome face.

"You did what you had to. I see it as an act of self defense." He validated me.

Standing up, he gave me a soft smile, which i returned.

"You don't hate me?" I say, sniffling my nose.

"I don't hate you."

He held a hand out in front of me, offering to help me stand.

"It takes a strong person to be able to handle that situation at such a juvenile age. That is a fact."

My smile grew bigger at his understanding. I was happy to finally get this off my chest after all these years, but i was even more happy that i got to share it with Tech. He never judged me for the things i did. He likes me for me.

"Can i hug you?" I ask, throwing him off.

He turned red and nervously rubbed the back of his neck.

"Oh, i uh-"

I didn't wait for an answer. Taking him by surprise, i wrapped my arms around his back and hugged him, burrowing my face into his chest. It took him a while to process what was happening but after he did, he pulled me in for a tighter hug.

"Thank you, Tech."

"You're welcome."

After that night, i never had another bad dream.
