ANNABETH was sick of it. She was sick of her father, who had lost interest in her the second her stepmother and stepbrothers had entered the picture. She was sick of her stepmother, who very clearly only had 2 children, and neither of them were her. She was sick of her stepbrothers attention hogging, because, despite it not being their fault, they had stolen both her father and stepmother's attention from her. But she had been towing the line, doing well in high school and working hard to make sure she got into a good college. Despite her dyslexia and ADHD, she had still scored a 1470 on her SATs. She had made it into the University of California, Los Angeles. Unfortunately, tuition had been slightly too high and with her father and stepmother focusing all their attention on her stepbrothers. She was alone in terms of college. So she was done. She packed up, left a note and used what supposed to be her tuition money to book a cruise. She didn't care where she ended up, as long as she could finally be independent and actually live her own life for once instead of being forced to work so hard she basically sacrificed her teenage years in the process. She couldn't even remember the last time she had seen her friends outside of school. She was just looking forward to getting away from everything and everyone. Unfortunately for her, that's not what the fates had planned.

PERCY was tired. Long flights cross country did that to you, he guessed. He and his father, who ran an oceanographic institute that studied human impact on wildlife, were going on a dive on some remote island he had never even heard of before. Percy was grateful, though, that his dad had arranged a cruise to the island, instead of another cramped flight, as no others had been available quickly or cheaply enough for him to make it in time. Plane travel made him nervous, too, so he was happy to be on the sea for a little longer. He was looking forward to relaxing journey there and a great time with his dad, being in his element. Unfortunately for him, that's not what the fates had planned.
Let me know what you guys think. To the people who've read my first story, I am greatly appreciative. This is a story I've planned for a while, but I'm happy to make changes based on any feedback I receive. Thanks so much for reading!
