CHAPTER 7
COP Romeo, Korengal ValleyRocky observed from the watchtower as an armored vehicle came rolling down the road from afar, immediately he recognized Suarez's head sticking out of the driver's hatch, waving to him as he approached the boom gates. The group jumped out of the ASLAV, walking up the hill into base. Rocky swung his F89 Minimi onto his back, before climbing down the ladder to meet the gang
"Rocky!" Alice exclaimed, happy to see him, giving him a hug. She hadn't seen him in nearly two days.
"Good to see you too, Alice." He chuckled, turning to Zidar and Chevy.
"You guys find anything?" He asked,
"Are you kidding? We found the motherlode." Zidar said, widening his arms out for emphasis.
"We found heaps over there. Over a hundred kilos." Noted Chevy
"Jesus..." Rocky scratched his eyebrow
"Did you bring any back for me?" He teased.
"Yeah, about to." Chevy stated, glaring at Zidar, who smiled back nervously,
"What?" Rocky asked
"Nothing." Chevy Dismissed, shaking his head. Rocky looked at his watch
"Well, I've got four more hours on guard duty, so I'll talk to you guys later." He waved
"Sure thing." Chevy said, before the group walked off. Rocky let out a sigh, looking at his watch again
Four more hours... fuck I hate guard duty
The sun began to set, the sky going from a light blue hue to orange on the horizon. He heard the ladder of the watchtower creaking from another soldier climbing up.Finally...
"Hey Rocky. Having fun up here?" He greeted, it was Griffin, one of the new combat engineers in Rocky's squad
"Fun? Guard duty fucking sucks." He denoted
"What do you mean? You have all this time to yourself, how could you hate it?" Griffin wondered
"I dunno. It gets lonely listening to my own thoughts all day, you know?" He answered
"Yeah fair enough, I guess. I'll see you around, Jekai." He said, before Rocky climbed down the ladder, heading to the gym where Zidar was. He met Zidar reading his Bible, issued to every soldier in the Australian army.
"Psalm 23:4. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil for you are with me." Zidar read out to Rocky
"A fitting verse, Zidar. I didn't take you for the religious type." He remarked
"I'm not that big on religion, but it's definitely worth the read. You should read the bible, Rocky." Zidar suggested
"Gosh, everyone tells me that. I'm not much of a reader." Rocky noted, scratching the back of his head
"Well, what else are you gonna do around here? We all have a bible each, might as well read it." He insisted
"I guess... Why did Chevy seem pissed at you?" Rocky brought up. Zidar looked over his shoulders left and right, seeing if anyone was within eavesdropping distance
