"Sic itur ad astra"

- Thus, you shall go to the stars

☾ ☾ ☾

How difficult it is to be simple.

How difficult it is to be seen for who you are, not for what you must be.

Aeris believed she had mastered the trick from when she was young, letting her thoughts show on pen and paper and on the walls of her bedrooms, shining her her ideas and life onto the people she had grown accustomed to in a talk of self righteousness and love, in every thing she did and didn't do.

But then the papers lay forgotten stuffed at the back of her desk, and the walls got scrubbed and painted a plain white colour, and her her cares and groans disappeared into the little pillow stained a shade darker blue and sobs muffled into the feathers of the blankets flowing around her like the tides of a river.

The river had overflown its banks years ago.

Aeris had watched it for the very first time from the carriage that had to always cross the stone bridge on its way back to the castle after her afternoon classes and activities.

Now she sat by the banks with her fingers dipped into the freezing water and watching it lap at the palm of her hands before flowing right past.

The water would then join the sea, an ever growing mass of blue that shined in the far distance of the twin, past the merchants alley and straight against the docks where the ships rested before their never ending journey with its crew and its cargo.

She had never been in a ship before.

Nor had she ever seen the sea with her own eyes, relying on the pictures and the hearsay of the castle servants who had just taken a holiday.

A never ending thing, a magical place, the place where the sun bled its rays onto the water, a place for new starts.

The knife felt heavy against her side, the familiar need to hold the blade in her arms and admire its shape pulling at her mind, the voices whispering their lies once again.

Aeris shook her hand, watching the ripples spread outwards, the crystal clear portrait of her face disrupting into blurred lines and swirls of black-

she pulled her hand out, Rustling onto her feet with a cry, chest heaving with panting breaths as she scrambled away from the banks, arms pickled close to her sides as horrified eyes watched the water boil, heat spreading across its surface in lines of darkness and decay, plants wilting against their paths before they disappeared with a hiss.

Embrace it

Let us help you

Mistress, please

You are strong

Why do you resist -

"No!" She screamed, pounding her head with her hands, wrenching out the sights that prevailed before her eyes "No!" Fear drenching her limbs and paralysing her lungs, the disbelief of what she had done bribing her mind with a pounding intensity.

"No" she sobbed, falling to her knees, sand digging against her knees, wind whipping her hair into her face "leave me alone, leave me alone."

She kneeled against the white sand, hands wrapped around the ring she had sworn never to remove, head bent as tears continued to paint their scenery onto the blank canvas around her feet.

For she was not a simple thing, and she wondered if anyone would ever see.

It was hopeless, she knew it was, and yet she tried.
