Back to my daily routine, I threw myself into my NYSC duties, immersing myself in teaching and engaging with my students. Each day brought new challenges and joys, and the support of my fellow teachers, especially Halima, made the experience more rewarding.
One afternoon, during a break from teaching, I decided to visit a local bookstore. As I browsed through the shelves, I stumbled upon a collection of poetry that reminded me of Ahmed. I couldn't resist buying it, knowing that the verses would serve as a connection between us during his absence.

As the topic of our families and backgrounds arose during one of our video calls, I noticed a shift in Ahmed's demeanor. His usually warm and relaxed expression tightened, and a hint of discomfort flickered in his eyes. I felt a mix of curiosity and concern as I broached the subject, hoping for open and honest communication.

"Ahmed, can I ask you something?" I hesitated slightly before continuing, "Our families come from different financial backgrounds. Does that ever worry you?"

He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts, before responding, "It's not something I've thought about in great detail, but I understand that our families have different financial situations. However, Fatima, please know that it doesn't change how I feel about you. You are the most important person in my life, and I want to be with you regardless of any differences."

His words were comforting, but I sensed there was more to be discussed. "I appreciate your love and support, Ahmed. I just want to ensure that we are prepared for any challenges that may arise in the future. It's important for us to be honest with each other about our concerns."

He took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully. "I won't deny that there may be challenges ahead. Our families have different expectations and standards of living. But I want you to know that I am fully committed to making this relationship work. Our love is strong, and together we can navigate any obstacles that come our way."
