CHAPTER SIX

NIGHTMARE

TRIGGER WARNING

Lucas, Max, Eddie, and Robin walk around the woods for at least two hours. Nobody says anything.

All anyone can think about is their likely impending death... as well as the image of Dustin's dead body hunched over on the tree, and how little remorse Max seemed to show.

Even with how things were going to end, Lucas felt AWFUL about Dustin. Lucas thought the same thing about Dustin as he did with Mike yesterday,

Maybe we could've been friends...

If anything, during that brief time, despite the situation they were in... They almost did feel like friends.

And now Dustin is dead.

Lucas shakes it off, realizing he can't think about it.

When Lucas reached the bottom of the tree earlier, Eddie and Robin introduced themselves. Both seemed upbeat and bubbly, with personalities that seemed to be full of life.

Lives that were about to end...

Once again, that sentence rings through Lucas' head,

Maybe we could've been friends...

Finally, Robin, who was up front with Max, as Lucas was next to Eddie behind them, speak up,

"So, uh... Are we actually gonna come up with a gameplan or are we just gonna endlessly wander around?"

Max rolls her eyes,

"You're more than welcome to go off by yourself. This arena is HUGE. It's larger than a small town."

"It's definitely bigger than at least District 12," Lucas points out.

Max nods, "There's only four others still out, and they could be anywhere."

"Max," Lucas asks, "Why did you leave the restaurant? Why not just stay there and hold up, wait for them to come to you?"

"Because that'd take too long, Lucas," Max claims, "I wanna get this over with."

"Well, what if the other four find that spot?" Lucas asks. "A lot of food and weapons were still there."

"I gave what I could to myself, Eddie, and Robin," Max points out, "The rest I got rid of. Hid or destroyed. It'll be fine."

"So, uh," Eddie asks, "What are we, like, gonna do if someone comes? Like, what are we gonna do if that Steve Harrington dude comes running at us with a spear or something?"

Max shrugs, "Try to kill him."

"And then we all just duke it out to the death until one of us is left standing?" Eddie asks.

Max rolls her eyes, "Yes, Eddie, we talked about this multiple times."

Eddie lets out a grin, "You know, I'm like, not trying to be dead or anything, but that actually does sound pretty rad."

"Yeah," Lucas rolls his eyes, "Because getting a giant blade or arrow in my heart is 'rad', yeah, for sure."

There's an awkward silence as they keep going.

Eventually, they reach a river.

"Let's stop here. Fill our canteens," Max suggests.

Everyone takes their packs off and sits down. Robin runs over to the water and starts putting mouthfuls of water into her mouth. She has a big grin on her face,
