Has there been a weird boy in your class? If you saw him, you knew that you were going to fail your math test or you knew there was going to be a spontaneous pop quiz? But if you managed to avoid him, it was good luck! In Rosewood his was Toby Cavanaugh, he was a transfer student from Washington and tried to give off that cool vibe which Alison hated. One night in 2002, all of the group were in Emily's bedroom gossiping, switching clothes and putting all types of makeup up on James when something tapped the window. The group's heads snap toward the window and see Toby Cavenaugh's face pressed against the class in a creepy smik. Alison stormed over to the window causing Toby to jump from the tree and run. "We need to get him back, I have a plan!" Alison said before rushing out of Emily's room with the girls following.
They all walked over to Toby's treehouse, Alison broke into his garage and grabbed a firework. "I overheard Toby's parents say if he shoots off another firework from his treehouse they'll send him away." Alison said smiling, "has anyone got a lighter?" Alison asked, Spencer spoke up saying, "I'm nervous, this is dangerous!" "Are you saying we let this perv get away with this?!" Alison shouted back, "no." Spencer said, "good!" Alison shouted; James handed her a lighter and she lit the firework. Suddenly the firework launches straight into the window of the treehouse and it explodes, the group run away quickly whilst Alison dials 911. Toby wasn't in the treehouse, his sister Jenna was. She was permanently blinded and Toby took the blame. But the group didn't know why, he had no reason to.
Tension rose in Hanna's body when Wilden spoke, she didn't know how to react. He knew. He knew about the Jenna thing. "I don't care that you were drinking the night Alison went missing." Wilden said, relief filled Hanna when he said this, he didn't know about the Jenna thing.. "You guys need to make sure all of your statements are correct." Wilden added before handing them their statements, Hanna looked at hers and remembered writing it. All of the questions going through her head, being grilled on everything from the color of Alison's eyes to her most recent boyfriend. Spencer spoke first with a, "yep, this is correct" then Emily mumbled a yeah, then Aria nodded, James said mhm and then it was Hanna. She looked at the girls before nodding, "yeah. That's correct." Hanna said, "Okay, you can hear back to class." The principal said. Hanna got up and grabbed her purse before leaving.
Hanna walked through the quiet hallway, she looked at the memorial for Alison. There were photos of Alison all the way up til 13, even some photos of her and the group. Hanna never stopped to look at this usually but thinking about Alison almost forced her to stop. "Why are you looking at that?" Mona Vanderwaal, Hanna's now best friend asked her. "I have no idea, probably because I was pulled into the office about Alison." Hanna said turning to her, "this whole Alison obsession with everyone is old. It's like there's new queen bees, everyone just needs to move on!" Mona responded, Hanna wasn't shocked after the way Mona was treated there is no surprise she wanted to get rid of Alison. "Anyways let's go, I'm bored already!" Mona said, Hanna smiled and nodded. "Let's go shopping for the Kahn party, have you got your change of clothes?" Hanna's asked, "Of course!" Mona said before the duo went into the restrooms and changed into two matching black dresses. They both strutted out of the school and into Rosewood Town Square.
Emily sat in her class, after being spoken to in the office her whole body was shaking. She looked up at her class board and saw 'Macbeth' in swirly letters, she hated Macbeth. "Okay folks, the next book we are reading this year is the beautiful play Macbeth! Written by William Shakespeare, this play tells us the story of two lovers who turn to a life of murder to be able to become king!" The teacher started to say but Emily had stopped listening by then, her phone sat in her pocket and all Emily was waiting for was that buzz, that horrifying buzz meaning A had texted her a threat. Emily started writing down what the teacher was writing on the blackboard whilst thinking about all the possibilities of who A could be. Mona? She hated Alison but she had no reason to hate the group. Riley Wolfe? Naomi Ziegler? No they are too popular to be focused on their group. And then it hit Emily; A must be Toby Cavanaugh! He has just returned to town just when they got those texts and he has a reason to hate the girls.
