As an hour had ticked by since Atlas had embarked on his search for another body, a sense of impatience began to engulf me. With each passing minute without any updates, my fear and unease grew exponentially. My mind couldn't help but wander to the chilling prospect of a recurrence of the same heinous murders that had plagued my life. The ominous question lingered in the forefront of my thoughts: Could it possibly be the same elusive and deranged murderer? The absence of any concrete information only added to the uneasiness settling in the depths of my mind. The mere thought of having history repeat itself sent shivers down my spine, as I anxiously awaited any shred of news or updates on Atlas' progress.
And then, unexpectedly, the shrill ring of the phone shattered the suffocating silence. It was Atlas, finally back with answers. Camille, sensing my anticipation, handed me the phone with a solemn expression, knowing that this conversation would either bring relief or plunge us deeper into the darkness. The line was drop-dead silent, he wasn't saying anything. After a while, he finally came clean.
"Ms. Emma, you were right..." He said, drowning out any hope I had managed to cling to. I knew in that instant that our city was under imminent threat, and what we had uncovered so far was merely the tip of the iceberg. He continued, his tone somber and filled with gravity, "Another lifeless body has been discovered, callously dumped in the drain mere meters away from where the previous murder took place.""But the most concerning thing is, the person was murdered in the most brutal way possible," he continued, his voice a mere whisper. My heart sank, and I could feel the weight of the impending danger pressing against my chest.
"Emma, we'll need you for this case," His voice held a hint of desperation. I knew there was no turning back, and this time, I'll catch that hell of a monster."I'll be there," I said and cut the call. Camille could see the determination etched on my face. She knew that we had to capture that abomination.
As I quickly freshened up and gathered my belongings, a sense of urgency coursed through me. The events of the past haunted my thoughts as I made my way towards the door. The terrors that I had experienced still lingered the memory of losing Aaron to that murderer haunting me day and night. I couldn't bear the thought of losing anyone else. I vowed to myself that I would not allow the same tragedy to befall anyone else and so, I headed to the murder scene.
