I'm awakened by the sound of crying. It's my baby Maeve. I stand up, put my cardigan on me, go to her room and turn on the soft light.

“What’s wrong, my little star?” I say when I take her from her cradle. When she puts her face on my chest, I definitely know she was having a nightmare.
“Ohhh Maeve…” I kissed the top of her head several times and rocked her for a few minutes before she fell asleep in my arms.

I put Maeve back on her cradle, kiss her forehead and go into my bedroom. 
I try to sleep, turning several times to find a good position, but nothing. I close my eyes but the only thing I see is Nick. My first love, the one who brought Maeve into my life. He broke up with me because he was still in love with Hannah, but he made a mistake and I was gone and pregnant. He wanted to see me, call me but I was away from Boston. 

Now Maeve is one year old, such a beautiful girl with blue eyes like Nick. I always smile when she crawls to me, touches my hair and my nose because she loves the contact. I always laugh when she sees a dog and wants to pet it. She’s my everything and no one can separate it from me. 

I receive a message from my best friend Audrey which says if I wanna go out for a coffee, but I don’t wanna leave Maeve alone. I text her if I can bring my little star with me and of course she said yes, because she’s Maeve’s godmother and Audrey loves her. 

I wake Maeve slowly, put on her a cute onesie with little apples on it, and take her in my arms to go to join Audrey at the coffee shop.

“Awww look at you little Maeve, you’re so cute…” Audrey says when she plays softly with Maeve’s cheeks. Maeve is giggling and I smile. “She’s growing fast…” 

“I know…” I sigh and rub my arm. “I’m not ready to see her grow, she’s still my little star who’s asking for big hugs when she’s crying…” I start to tear up and I can see Maeve starting to make a sad face. 

“It’s okay little star… Mommy’s okay” I smile, stroke her rosy cheek and give a kiss on it. She claps her hands which make me and Audrey giggling. We hear the little bell of the door ringing and Maeve looks at the door where the man who gave me Maeve is entering the coffee shop. 

“y/n…” Audrey is whispering to avoid making a scene.

“I saw Audrey…” I say when I look at Nick. What is he doing here? 

After he said something to the barista, he looked around the coffee shop and saw me. I didn’t expect to see him here. He gives me a small smile which I give him back. I could hear Maeve babbling something to Audrey. I looked at Maeve for a second and took her in my arms and then tried to look for Nick but he was already gone. 

“You okay?” Audrey says with a concerned face.

“Yeah, that was just weird to see him after a year without news of him” I say when I bounce Maeve on my lap which makes her giggle. 

“You’re gonna talk to him about Maeve?” 

“I don’t know if it’s a good idea, he already moved on…” I say when I drink my coffee. 

“He should know about Maeve, even if he moved on…” She says when she takes my hand. 

“I know…” I sigh.

After two hours talking about Maeve, our jobs and seeing Nick at the coffee shop, Maeve fell asleep in my arms. It was time to go, I slowly hugged Audrey to avoid waking Maeve when Audrey kissed the top of her head. She tells me to call her if I need something or even go out sometimes. We both say goodbye and go in separate directions. I was going to go back to the apartment until I heard a melody.
