Finally finished this chapter! Again, I'm so sorry for the wait but life gets in the way. I will continue to try to write this story whenever I get chances in my life, but it will definitely be a slow process.
Thank you all for being so understanding and patient.
This chapter will include things from episode 469 of Naruto Shippuden, but very loosely... That's the one about Sukea, the freelance reporter trying to help Team 7 see behind Kakashi's mask, who (POSSIBLE FILLER SPOILER) is actually Kakashi himself. Think of it as an origin story for that.
I also had loose inspiration from Avatar: The Last Airbender for this chapter guys. I'm sure all the people who watched the show will understand it haha, and hopefully like the reference as well.
Ahsoka was already up by the time Kakashi's body deemed itself rested enough to wake up the next morning. Though his eyes still felt like they had lead poured over them when he cracked them open.
The auburn haired kunoichi offered him the slightest smile when she noticed he was awake. He found she had already begun clearing out the traces of burnt branches from the extinguished fire. But there were more important things to take care of now that Kakashi had woken up. Finding out where they were and planning their next moves being at the top of that list.
Ahsoka set off to a nearby village she had sensed upstream soon after. She had been reluctant to leave Kakashi alone while he was still recovering, but he brushed off her concern, arguing that he was not weak.
That sparked a small argument, ending with Ahsoka conceding and leaving him a sharpened stick just in case.
Kakashi got bored of waiting for her after the first hour, so he decided to make himself useful and finish cleaning up the traces of the fire Ahsoka hadn't finished in the morning. The pain on his shoulder when he first attempted to stand up was enough to make him want to lay back down on the forest floor. He still managed to get up, be it with effort, but at least he could now walk around and carry small things without too much strain. That was at least something.
Ahsoka returned just a little after midday, carrying several bags.
"Tada!" she exclaimed, pulling out what looked like two wigs as she knelt next to Kakashi; one black, one brown.
He raised a brow. "What the are those for?"
"Disguises," she said, like it was obvious. "We're too recognizable as we are. If we're to catch Daiki, we have to blend in. He already knows what we look like, so this will help."
Kakashi's face turned grim. "Did you hear anything about his whereabouts?"
It was Ahsoka's turn to grimace. "No, but I think I sensed him somewhere east from here." She placed the wigs back in the bag. "I didn't get a good read of his chakra signature back at the temple due to our chakra being limited. But I felt some of it at the end.... faintly, but it was enough to let me get a sense of his location now."
Kakashi nodded. "Pakkun should've informed Lord Third about the situation by now, so we can wait for reinforcements and attack him by surprise."
Ahsoka shook her head. "I don't wanna wait until reinforcements arrive. Daiki's chakra is already faint enough as it is, we could loose him if we wait too long."
"So you're thinking we should scout ahead and see what he is up to?"
Ahsoka picked up a blue and orange jacket from the bag. "Hence the disguises."
Kakashi looked warily at the clothes. "How did you even pay for those? Did you steal them?"
Ahsoka looked to the side, her cheeks turning slightly red. "Well.... not exactly. I just snuck into the stores and left a couple of coins I could spare." She scratched her cheek guility. "I couldn't exactly carry a lot of money on me, you know?"
