episode 4

The 4th of July in Cousins is all about tradition. Susannah decks out the whole house, the dads come up for the weekend, the boys steam clams and shoot fireworks. All the other 4th of Julys, me and belly were just tagging along. But this year we have friends. we have plans.

Me and Belly are eating cereal while Jeremiah's drinking milk from her bowl.
Susannah interrupts my thoughts.
"Which makes me think, if Belly doesn't hurry up and ask Cam to the ball, you should take her."
"Ew! No way." Belly exclaims.

"Oh- yeah-yeah I'm already going with Shayla."
"To the debutante ball?"
"Yes.."
"As an escort?"
"Wrap your head around it mom, alright.." Steven jokes.
"Shaylas coming today with Nicole and Gigi, so you'll meet her."
"That's amazing! Also, Ms Covingtons first rehearsal is tomorrow so, tic, tok." Susannah says to belly, then looks at me and jeremiah.

"I don't know my kids anymore.." Mom says.

We all peek out the door hole to see what Victoria looks like.
"She's hot.."
"Dude.."
"What! I'm just saying what everyone was thinking."
"I wasn't thinking that." me and belly say in unison.
"You know, that could be their future stepmom.."

Steven pushes conrad.
"Dude, what the hell-"
Conrad pushes back.
"Guys- their coming."
Steven pushes jeremiah.
"Hey!" Steven says.
"Be nice." Mom whispers.

"Hey! Come give your old man an hug." He says, embracing us in a hug.
"Oh my gosh!!"
"Um- this is Victoria."
"Hi guys! It's really great to meet you, I've heard nothing but 5 star reviews." Victoria says.

"Who the fuck says 5 star reviews." I think.
The 3 of us awkwardly nod.
They walk away,
"There is no way she's 27." I say.
"We have to grab her wallet and check her ID." Belly says.
"She's in grad school, chill."
"I can't chill! Knock off Dakota Johnson has her claws in our dad."

"Steven can you get your dads bags and put them upstairs please?" Is all i hear before I go up to my room.
I'm not really chill about the whole Victoria thing.
I bump into Conrad.

"S-sorry."
"It's okay. Are you okay? You look s-stressed." He says.
"I-I just don't like Victoria." I truthfully say.
"She just got here.."
"Yeah, I don't know. I'm going to my room." I walk away.

I feel really stressed out for no reason.
I hear footsteps behind me, but I go to my room and sit in my bed.
Jeremiah stands in the doorway.
"Are you okay?" He asks, concerned.
"I- just feel stressed." I say.
"It's okay love, I'm here." He says, getting on the bed and putting his hand on my thigh.
"Hey- um I know you and Luke kissed last night." I said.
His eyes widen. "I was drunk, y/n. I know it isn't a excuse but I promise you I love you so much. It's always been you. Only you." He says, kissing me.
"Do you wanna go down? I'm sure everyone's here." He calmly spoke.

"Yeah." I say, walking downstairs with him.
Shayla, Nicole and Gigi get here.

Everyone's outside and talking, but I'm just hanging around with Belly.
"What a rad girl, Steven!"
"I'm a rad dad."
"What is a deb ball?"
"Apparently, it's for girls like me and Y/N who don't know who they are.." Belly says.
"Belly.. I didn't mean it like that." Mom says.
"You know, my cousin did it in Chicago and they raised a ton of money for public schools."
Victoria says.
