This was the first time ever that Xiu had fallen hard for another girl, and she could not help it.
After that day, they never saw each other again. It was inevitable, as this was the one and only encounter where their paths crossed. Xiu really doesn't know when they will ever meet again; however, they keep in touch with each other through Weibo.
They went from strangers to acquaintances to online friends, and they exchanged WeChat, which Xiu happily bragged about to her group of friends. From then on, Xiu's favorite hobby was to look at Shen's Moments on WeChat.
Shen was quite active in posting on her Moments, one of which Xiu is rather thankful for. In this way, she could be updated with Shen's daily life.
Shen actually has a pet cat, which Xiu finds cute and lovely because she is a cat person. However, she could not raise one because her mother does not like cats; she could still look and envy other people's cats.
Or how Shen has many close friends and block mates, to which she even designated cute endearments to each of them, another one Xiu was envious of.
Xiu was quite self-aware that if it weren't for that one encounter in receiving educational assistance, her and Shen's paths would have been like parallel lines, one that is not supposed to meet ever.
Therefore, although Xiu kept Shen in her heart, she dared not be presumptuous and confess her feelings to the latter. She doesn't want to destroy the good feelings Shen has for her, even if that good feeling is only towards a stranger that you can't help but find pitiful.

Before the summer vacation ended, Xiu experienced depression once again. She doesn't know why either, but it seemed as if life didn't want to give her heart and emotional well-being a rest. Every time a semester ended, and the University went through a break, there would always be external forces that targeted Xiu and sent her into emotional instability.
In this case. Xiu's third sister, Ji'an, had planned a month-long vacation, going to their second sister's, Jie'en's, place in another city and staying there. It was pretty far away, and Xiu thought that perhaps a new environment would help her be more independent since it was far away from her mother.
This is not to say that Xiu doesn't want to be with her mother, but that ever since she was a child, she had been with her mother and grew entirely independent of Mrs Tan. Therefore, Xiu was raised into a waste (as was described by Mrs. Tan). Xiu took everything for granted because her mother could handwash the laundry, cook food, wash the dishes, or cook rice. Therefore, it's okay if Xiu won't do it.
This is not to say that Xiu doesn't know how to do all the abovementioned chores. In fact, when she was in primary school, she would do all of that (except cooking, that one she really has no talent for). She washes her dirty garments, socks, uniforms, everything that is hers. She was satisfied with the result; they looked as good as new and were fragrant.
Just that her mother was never satisfied with it. Mrs Tan always has something to nitpick about the laundry Xiu washes. Mrs Tan would even rewash all of them, which means Xiu's efforts were wasted, water and soap were wasted, and Mrs Tan would exert another effort into rewashing them.
Over time, Xiu got tired (emotionally) of Mrs. Tan's nitpicking, so she decided to just not do it at all. That's right, that's the kind of person Xiu is.
She can't wake up early but still stays up late; sometimes, she suffers from insomnia, and sometimes, she just feels too tired to sleep. How contradictory, but that's the best way to describe it. She quickly gets bored, and if she doesn't find anything to do, she might find it interesting to do self-harm. It wasn't that she wanted to die–well, she wanted to. But not in that way. The entire reason she harms herself is because she finds it fascinating how red her blood could be and how cute it looks when they streamed down her wrist and dropped on the floor.
