Chapter L
Lost ChildThird Person's POV
“What do you mean the goddess got away?!” Sargon’s voice thundered across the throne room, making the people around him, tensing from the heavy atmosphere.
He was fuming mad. He couldn't believe they lost the guinea pig which he had been recently taken interest of.
While still one knee bent down, one of the generals finally had the courage to respond. “We arrived at the palace without any trace of her, Your Majesty. It seems… the Kingdom of Egypt retrieved her.”
“Argh!” He slammed the arm of his throne chair, making a loud thud that had others flinching. He gritted his teeth. “I was so, so close to become free! How did that guinea pig escape?! You all useless thing!”
He cursed incomprehensible phrases. That was all he could do now that he just came back again to zero. Without such a divine energy, the process of splitting would not continue!
Nervous and in panic, his attendants couldn't do anything to lessen his rage. The generals merely bowed as they knelt while the courtiers fanned him so he wouldn't completely burn in anger.
The general looked up at him. Aside from that, there was something more that King Sargon must know. So he said, “Your Majesty, some of our guards claimed that… the former King of Egypt was there while taking the goddess back.”
“What…?”
His lips contorted into a menacing snarl. His facial muscles tightened. His balled fists loosened up as he gawked at the general with his frenzied eyes becoming wider. Did he just heard him correctly?
Khufu, the former Pharaoh, was there?
“He took the risk to enter my den to take her?” he asked in a low tone, head titling down.
Yes, the back of his head somehow answered.
That Pharaoh knew this would happen. He knew Sargon wouldn't be at the palace at that night, so he took that opportunity to execute his plan and sneak at one of his palaces where the goddess Hesperia was.
And since that palace was located at a secluded part of Babylon (an effective spot to conduct his various magical tests), he managed to made a surprise attack by starting a fire. He brought his military force that would surely outnumber the guards in the palace.
And during the commotion, he escaped with Hesperia.
He planned this more than Sargon had expected. He infiltrated the palace because he was confident he’d be successful. But why?
“That goddess is a maid before, is she?” he asked, still in deep thoughts.
“Yes,” Nabu, one of his trusted servants answered. He was the one who also investigated the goddess's background. “Before she was officially hailed as a goddess, she was serving at the Pharaoh's palace… To be precise, she's the youngest prince's nanny.”
Hmm.
What's with that goddess that pushed Khufu to infiltrate the palace himself?
Is she not a mere maid?
Those were the thoughts that bothered Sargon, until one of the generals called for his attention.
“Your Majesty,” he said. He looked hesitant but he eventually gave in. “Even though he is the Pharaoh, it is disrespectful in our kingdom that he sneaked in our territory.”
He raised his brow, telling him to go straight to the point.
He then cleared his throat. “I suggest… we must start a war against them.”
