Chapter XLVII
Waves of Memories
TW: scenes depicting harassment

“What a useless thing you are.” From a lying position, Sargon got up and sat on the elevated boulder, his legs bent and his arms rested on his knees.

Tonight was just one of the nights we'd try out the ritual to separate his brother's spirit from his body. But then again, just like the previous nights, none hadn't successfully worked yet.

When he tilted his head, he gawked at me with his usual annoyed look, twitching his lips to suppress his irritation. “Is Ashur really training your power well?”

I went silent and fiddled my fingers.

“Huh?!” he shouted. “Use your tongue!”

I flinched and looked down, afraid to meet his gaze. “I—I'll try better next time…”

How many times did I tell this to him? Every failed attempt, I kept on saying I'd try better but in the end, I just couldn't put my heart into it no matter how I'd push myself.

Now… Sargon was becoming more and more impatient. And more and more frightening.

“Next time? Hah! You think this is a game?” He scoffed. “Damn it!”

My heart raced when he got up from the boulder and stood in front of me. He stepped closer. And how I wish I could just shrink there and turn into dust and escape.

The aura I was feeling around him was starting to make me nervous.

“Hesperia…”

Involuntarily, I looked up and met his eyes.

A wave of terror passed over me as soon as he greeted me with a wide smile, grinning from ear to ear like a maniac. As if his mood just made a full 360 degree turn.

I stilled.

He reached my cheek and brushed it with his fingers. I felt nothing but goosebumps all through my spine. What is he doing now?

“Have I told you you're pretty?” he whispered.

I gasped.

My feet turned cold.

“I was not planning to do anything with you — other than keeping you as a tool,” he said. His hand traveled down, suddenly clasping my neck with his palm, as if choking me. I tilted my head upwards as he tightened his hold. “But you're good at pushing my temper. So good.” He gritted his teeth.

“Y-Your Majesty,” I gasped, “I can't… breathe.”

He let me go, tossing me with force. I involuntarily stepped back, grasping my neck in the process.

I trembled on my knees as I panted hard to catch my breath. Damn this man. He wouldn't think twice to hurt someone!

He sat at the edge of the boulder and sighed heavily. “Ahh. Every night I get excited thinking I can finally have this body all my own…” He hugged himself and laughed. “But this delay due to your annoying incompetence really really spoils the fun, Hesperia.”

When he rerouted his eyes at me, he grabbed my arms and then my cheeks. He smirked as he stared at my lips with provocation.

“I wonder what would that Pharaoh do when I touch one of his interesting subjects?” His eyes settled to my eyes; that disgusting smirk had not yet smeared off from his face.

I glared at him. I tried to shrug off his hand on my cheeks but his strength was incomparable to mine. I could feel his long fingers burying against my delicate cheeks.
