"Awful what happened to Katie isn't it?" Fabiola muttered, it was Tuesday morning and the news of what had happened to Katie Bell over the weekend had spread like wildfire.
"Yeah, and it was awful witnessing it too." Ivory stabbed her fork into her sausage. Fabiola watched her friend, who seemed even more distant than she had been as of late.
"I leave you alone for one day and this is what happens to you," Fabiola joked buttering her toast as a bag thudded on the table right next to them.
"This is the Gryffindor table," Fabiola's voice was suddenly cold and Ivory turned to see who had taken their seat next to her.
Theodore Nott.
"I feel like we've had this conversation before, stop imposing yourself into our spaces," Fabiola sneered and Theodore rolled his eyes.
"I didn't come here for you Ferrara, so just shut up and eat your breakfast...we need to talk," he directed his latter speech to Ivory who paused, she had a feeling it was about what happened on Saturday.
"Here, now?" Ivory raised an eyebrow, the boy nodded and waved his wand, but Ivory could see no notable difference in anything around her. "What did you just do?"
"Muffliato charm, so your friend or other people can't listen in, now, what exactly happened on Saturday?" Theodore questioned, he folded his arms and leaned in towards her like he was an Auror interrogating her.
"Katie Bell got cursed," Ivory answered plainly.
"Yes, but, did you mention Draco by any chance, the boy's scared it could all come back to him."
Ivory frowned, since when had Theodore deemed himself Draco's keeper or bodyguard? She had thought that role was reserved for Crabbe and Goyle.
"I didn't need to mention Draco. Harry has it all figured out, I tried to deter him, but once Harry thinks something there's no changing his mind, so I'd advice Draco to do his job properly!" Ivory snapped and Theodore smirked. "A necklace? You think Dumbledore would readily accept a necklace from a student, he's not Filch, Draco needs to give him more credit."
"I told him it was a bad idea, but he wants to do it as indirectly as possible. Not that I ever expected him to do it face to face, anyway. Draco heard McGonagall talking with Snape about it, he wanted to speak to you but I told him I would," Theodore explained.
"What? So he has it out for me now?" Ivory muttered. She was aware that Draco was spiralling, he had to be, to be slacking in his academics. Something that he once took great pride in, he also barely attended classes, and he skipped a lot of meals, he wasn't himself anymore, and thus his definition of 'having it out' might be downright wanting to kill her.
"Basically," was Theodore's reply.
"We've got Charms, see you there." Ivory stood to her feet, signalling to Fabiola to follow her.
They were the last of the students to flood into the classroom, and as the two girls walked past, she could feel Draco's icy cold glare following her back. Their eyes didn't meet to her relief; he hadn't completely lost the plot, otherwise he might have confronted her then and there.
"Nice earrings Ivory, opal might just be your colour. I saw a really nice necklace when I was window shopping in Borgin and Burkes this summer, but I'd never buy anything from there," Parvati said causing Ivory to jerk her head backwards.
What was she playing at?
"Is that supposed to be some kind of joke?" Ivory kept her eyes locked on Parvati, she didn't have to look to know that Draco's gaze was burning through her back like a hot poker.
