Calum's P.O.V.

The walk home is extremely awkward. I can not express extremely enough. It's obvious Addison had been crying again while talking to Kam, and I don't exactly know what to say to her considering the fact that she really annoys me. Always trying to get things out of me when I really don't wanna even talk at all.My mom is sitting in the window when I arrive home, and of course, when she sees me walking up the driveway with a respectable looking girl, she invites her in and asks if she wants coffee or cake, which Addison politely denied. (Good thing too, I don't think we even have cake right now. My mom just says things when she's excited.) Before Addison heads out the door, she tells me to friend her on Facebook. I say I will but only because my mom keeps giving me the "you better do it or else" look.
After she's left, my mom starts talking a mile a minute. "Isn't she beautiful? Did you see how she dresses modestly, dear? What did you guys talk about? What did you do? Are you into her? Is she into you? Did you mean anyone else? Tell me everything."
I sigh. "Mom, you wanna know the truth?" She nods, "Yes, dear. Of course, of course." She looked so excited as if I might actually say I like this girl.
"She annoys me, mom. Not my type." I kiss her forehead and walk down the stairs to my room. From down here, I can hear my mom finally stand up from her chair and start unpacking more boxes. I hate having to tell my mom things she doesn't want to hear, but I'm not gonna lie about something like this. It's true, Addison is annoying. She asks so many...too many questions. And what's the big deal about my middle name? She had to have asked about 30 names.
I begin unpacking some of the boxes stacked up on my wall. I pull out my blanket, the one I've had since I was 5. It's double sided, one side covered in footballs and baseballs and soccer balls, and the other just plain red. Yes, that's the side I use now. I throw it "neatly" on my mattress and keep pulling things out of my boxes. A few pillows come out, a few soccer trophies, about 6 pairs of shoes, and a couple posters to hang up once I get my walls painted black and white.
I lay down on my bed and look at my phone. Fucking yes. My mom has the wifi set up finally.
As much as I had no fun with Addison today, I feel I owe her a thank you for showing me around, so I hop on Facebook, search her, and friend her. Then, switching to messenger, I send her a super short, super brief, but very to-the-point message:
"Thanks for showing me around today."
I consider putting a smiley face at the end but....I don't want her thinking I like her. AT ALL . She's the type of girl that if she's even thinks I like her or her company the slightest tiny bit, she won't leave me alone. I sit back on my bed and stalk her profile as I wait for a reply.
Her profile picture isn't her. It's a girl who looks very much like Addison, but I can tell it's definitely not. Not to long ago today she had posted a picture of herself and a boy side hugging, Addison's head resting on his shoulder. The caption reads, "Gonna miss my best friend as he leaves for camp and soon to protect the innocent people across the world. So proud of my Jake for being so brave and strong. Hope I can be just as strong till he returns."
I check her relationship status, and sure enough, boyfriend Jake is mentioned. This kinda makes me relieved. I'll have an excuse to tell my mom now when she mentions Addison again. She's not even single. Poor guy.
But I guess this is why she was crying. I wonder if he'll actually come back. I can't imagine a member of my family of my family going around the world and not knowing where they are or what is happening to them.
Knowing that Addison is going through something like this ...I now have a little more respect for this small town girl that showed me around my new home.
