I glanced toward the door where I heard the voice come from.
"So what if she's awake? It's not time to go ahead with the plan yet." A soft, collected voice said.
"Yeah, but we should at least get her used to her surroundings." A similar, but more calm and masculine voice replied.
"Just open the door already," A gruff and demanding voice boomed, "This plan is doomed to fail regardless so let's fail already."
"Why are you always so negative, Vance?" The soft voice asked, "You almost seem nonchalant and uncaring that he slaughtered all of our kind!"
"Moira, you seem to care more than you should!" Vance shot back, "Defying the King will only result in more casualties and we don't want that."
"What?" Moira snapped, "And you think all of us should just stand here and not do anything?!"
"Guys stop arguing so loud!" The calm voice began, "We should try our best to do something at the very least. If you want to be a coward and hide behind your position as Royal Executioner, go back to the basement and do your job."
Vance growled and grumbled, "This is just like you, Azreal." He paused to take a breath, "You, one of the last three Forlorn still alive, and you choose being one of the last as your chance to play the hero."
"I'm not a hero." Azreal said, "I want payback, and there's nothing heroic about that."
"It is when your revenge is being enacted onto a tyrant," Moira responded.
"That's not my point." Azreal replied, "My point is that he's gotten away with everything for way too long."
"Well fine." Vance grumbled, "I'll head down to my room and work on what I'm supposed to be doing. When you two get caught, leave me out of it!"
"Fine, leave, pitiful coward." Azreal snickered.
"You want to say that to my face?" Vance yelled, angry.
"I called you a coward, you nasty, trashy pig." Azreal snarled, "Go hide away while Moira and I get some work done."
"Let me see the human first." Vance grated, "It'd be nice to at least add some of their features to my notes."
"Fine." Moira sighed, and then, I saw the door open.
3 humanoid figures began to approach me.
The first one came right up to me and knelt to reach my level.
He had purple skin, dark violet hair, 2 white horns, a fang that hung out of his mouth on the right side, pointy ears, and a very professional, suit-like uniform, covered in compass map-style stars. There was a sheath on his left side with a wavy shape.
"How are you feeling?" He asked me.
I shoved him away from me and he looked worried.
"I'm...sorry?" He continued, "I didn't mean to upset you."
He held his hand out and smiled, "I'm Azreal. Can you tell me your name?"
"I...I'm Dani." I replied. "Why am I here?"
"I need your help." He continued. "We have a king, and-"
I cut him off and blurted, "I heard the part about your king. What does any of that have to do with me?"
"Oh, heh." He chuckled and scratched his head, "The few times your species has visited our world, they've all been extremely powerful, so I wanted to get the help of a human."
"We were close friends with an extremely powerful human, too." Moira chimed in.
"So tell us, what can you do?" Vance grumbled.
