"Saaaaaans!!!!" Dream yelled into the void. He came to check up on his new friend, can't let Sans stay lonely for long.
As the positive skeleton wandered around he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
"Sans..?" He called again. There was a lot of negativity, usually, that's normal because of the lack of beings in the save screen and Sans is rather gloomy, but not this time, this time was different. He was getting worried. 'It is amusing that I got attached to him so quickly' Dream laughed at himself, 'I mean, he's lonely in an empty world, and I'm lonely in a world full of people who don't care." His expression saddened, 'I shouldn't think about that'.As he got closer to the RESET button his worry grew stronger. Sans is supposed to be as close to the light as possible, it's dangerous to be in the void without a light source, stars know how easy it is to get lost somewhere you can't see or hear anything.
"Dream?" Said a familiar voice. Dream quickly turned around to face the bloody skeleton. He launched at Sans, hugging him close.
"Stars I was so worried!" He exclaimed, tightly holding his friend. "There was so much negativity, and you weren't near the light, and, and-" The guardian began to stutter.Sand hesitantly hugged him back, carefully pulling Dream closer. The yellow skeleton didn't understand why he was so shocked; was he really expecting Dream to not care?
"Could you let go of me, I don't like hugs that much." Sans' voice snapped Dream back to reality.
"Oh yeah, sorry" He took a step back. Now that he could take a closer look at Sans he realized why he got that feeling. Sans was different, his appearance and the emotional mess in his head. He blended with the void more than usual. It was almost like the void was consuming him, pulling the lonely skeleton into nothingness, making him part of it. But that wouldn't make sense, that can only happen if one spent a long time in the void without a light-
Oh."Sans did you go into the void..?"
That took the skeleton off guard. He was hesitant to answer. They stood in silence for what seemed like 5 minutes.
"Sans?" This time Dream's voice was a lot more stern.
"It's Geno-" He eventually answered.
"Huh?"
"My name is Geno..."
Dreams expression softened.
"Did you talk with Ink?" Maybe he will finally meet this multiverse's Star Sanses, and then he won't be lonely anymore!
"No, I thought it would be confusing since you're a Sans and all..."
"Actually no, I've always been Dream." He laughed, "But you didn't answer my question"
"Yeah... I couldn't stand that fucking button anymore." Geno said.
"Oh... How did you manage to find your way back?" Dream was worried, to say the least.
"Death found me after-" He stopped, seemingly catching himself before he could say something he'd regret, "Never mind...""Right, well," Dream said after some time, "I came to keep you company, I thought maybe we could chat while I organise my schedule for dreams."
"Your... what?"
"My schedule. I need to check on everyone's dreams while they sleep." He explained. It was always entertaining how confusing his job was to mortals.Geno stared at him, concerned. It reminded Dream of Swap. The old Swap. The one that was like a mother, constantly checking up on Dream and telling him to take a break. Now that he thinks about when was the last time he took a break? Swap would be so mad at him...
Whatever. At least he found something he loved. What was Dream thinking!? He's supposed to be happy for his friend, not sad and angry!"Dream?" Geno's voice brought him back to reality. He needs to stop spacing out so much... "You've just been quietly staring into the void..."
"Oh, sorry about that!"
He walked closer to the RESET button so he could see more clearly and patted the spot next to him. They ended up talking for hours. Dream finished his work at some point, so now they were just chatting about anything they could think of, jumping from one topic to another.
But Dream still couldn't stop feeling as of something was wrong. Geno kept looking at the RESET button and then frantically searching for something in the void. Did something happen in there? He felt a lot of fear coming from him.
They chatted for a bit more before Dream decided that was enough.
"Geno I'm not stupid, I know something isn't right. What do you expect to come out of the void?" He looked him in the eyes.
"It's nothing..." The skeleton kept avoiding eye contact with Dream.
"Geno, I don't want you to keep panicking over something in the void. I know you can't leave, I'm not going to let you be alone for so long somewhere you don't feel safe." He wasn't giving up, and Geno knew that."..." Geno looked into the void again. "I saw something..."
"Someone. They looked like Frisk, but- I don't know, they were just blending into the void I guess? Their eyes were dark and I could barely see their face- I don't know, I really don't know! It was just weird..."
Dream was about to say something but he continued:
"And- and Reaper saw them too, so it wasn't a hallucination, but- it's not that murderer is it? I don't want it here..."
"Geno..." Dream paused, not knowing what to say. "Hey Gen. If you want we can try to find it? If it's bothering you so much we can try to find out what it is?"
"I'm... scared."
"Geno I fight a giant octopus and his gang of insane murders every day. You think I can't take on a ghostly child?" He said taking out his knife.
"Fine, but I'm not fighting it." The bleeding skeleton looked around. "We're gonna need a light source if we want to stay sane."
"Oh don't worry about that, my friend." Dream said with a sinister grin. With one quick move, he got up and started shaking his entire body. Geno stared at him unimpressed.
" And this is supposed to help us..?" He asked.
"Dream I think you need a break from all tha-"
He got cut off when bright gold light started eliminating from Dream's body. He was like the brightest glow stick known to mankind. It would require a team of the most advanced scientist to make a glow stick this bright. (I am losing my mind and @Allyncreates isn't helping.) His eyes lit up with neon blue as he stared at Geno with a smug smile.
"What the fuck?!" Geno exclaimed, shielding his eyes. Dream just smiled wider. He took a step into the void.
"You coming?"
"Why are you glowing?!"
"Why does it matter?!"...
"So are you coming?"
"Yeah, yeah"They wandered around for a while with no results. Dreams magic was enough to keep them from visual hallucinations, but it didn't have anything to reflect off, so it was still dark. Geno kept running around and reassuring Dream that it did happen.
"Gen, I believe you. You don't have to keep telling me that it was real." Dream said while patting him on the head.
"I-, it's..." He sat down. "I feel like we're wasting time."
"It's fine-" Then Dream felt as if someone grabbed him by his shoulder. He immediately turned around, ready to stab whoever was lurking in the shadows. But, no one was there.
"You good?" Geno asked, worried. Dream could feel his fear growing bigger. Alarmingly bigger.
"Yeah, I think it was a hallucination."They walked around for a bit longer before deeming the place safe. Dream stayed with the bleeding skeleton for a bit longer to help him calm down, but he had a job he had to go back to. Geno decided to wait a bit to see if anything happens and then go to sleep.
