Mitsuru hovers above us being loud. "Folks! We have an unusual turn out this year as Building Three is making a comeback! For top spinning we will have two matches going at once. The first match is the gorilla from Building Thirteen Hajime Suguroku—"
"Say it again! I dare you!" Said gorilla shakes his fist.
"—against who smells like a poisonous flower but is more like a bird in heavy makeup, Supervisor Kiji Mitsuba!"
"Don't make me come over there! Such behavior is uncalled for!" My father holds his head high.
"Don't talk about my father that way!" Yep, it's going to be interesting. But I suppose that's what the warden wants.
Mitsuru doesn't seem to care until he notices an inmate shouted at him. "Looks like inmate Number Six has claws! Which is fortunate as the warden requests that Number Six partner up with his FATHER Supervisor Kiji Mitsuba! This cannot be ignored."
Immediately tons of gasps fill the entire stadium at learning the truth. Everyone begins gossiping like school girls. They get louder and louder until the warden shoots a deadly glare. Every man goes silent without another warning.
"So which inmate will be accompanying Supervisor Suguroku?" Mitsuru asks like nothing happened.
I watch as the four inmates debate who will go. "They should've already had their lineup planned," I state coldly while examining my nails, "it's a wonder they've even made it this far. I bet Hajime carried the whole team."
"Well he's won every single year as far as I'm aware. But with you as my partner I believe we can win," Kiji replies. He leads me into the arena where our match will take place.
At some point, Inmate Twenty-Five jumped into the arena while knocking Hajime on his face. He smiles widely at me with a crazed look in his eyes. Lime green hair hangs at his back like some sort of slime. An entire arm and hand as well as half his face is bandage-covered. "Wow! You look so much like those magical anime girls!"
"And why would I care?" I place a hand on my hip.
"Whoa! It's like you're a real-life anime character!"
We all are, idiot. I go to take my place to face off against him. I think I'll definitely need to use magic or else I won't be able to avoid the heavy ball chained to his leg.
Mitsuru announces, "Alright! Our first match is Supervisor Kiji Mitsuba and Inmate Number Six of Building Three versus Supervisor Hajime Suguroku and Inmate Number Twenty-Five of Building Thirteen!"
Attention turns to the arena across from ours where the other match will take place.
"In our second match we have our monkey Supervisor Samon Gokuu of Building Five—"
"Don't make me rip you up into pieces!" the supervisor yelled as he nonchalantly leans against his staff.
"—and the warden's guard dog Supervisor Kenshirou Yozokura of Building Four—"
"Just get on with it," Shirou groans.
"We know Inmate Number Six-Thirty-Four will be assisting Supervisor Yozokura. Who do we have to help the monkey?"
Samon grinds his teeth as he orders Qi and Inmate Fifty-Eight to join him.
The old man offers me a sheepish grin as he stretches out just barely at the edge of the large bowl. Qi whips out his pipe and takes on his usual role of the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland. He ignores his fellow inmate's chiding.
Mitsuru has no comment for any of that and decides to move on. "Now that our teams have been decided, they may begin!"
I share a look with my father before darting after Hajime as soon as both tops are released. I slam into him with a force he obviously thought I didn't have.
The gorilla meets my eyes with his annoyed ones. "Where the hell did you come from?"
"Well, I can tell you who I came from. But I think you already know that," I answer as I rebound off Suguroku and land beside Kiji.
My father bends down, grabs me by my boots, and launches me into the air. He brings out his weapons which deflect many different types of attacks.
I offer Twenty-Five and Hajime some glittery pink explosions to cover Kiji's advance towards their top. I twirl midair and kick Twenty-Five as I land.
The inmate, now slouched against the wall, looks up at me with mixed emotions. "That's amazing! But—but my memory! I can't recreate it for some reason." He continues to sit frozen in place.
I rush at my father as soon as he thrusts out his weapon towards Hajime. I yell, "Blood Merge!" Immediately, my soul merges with Kiji's and I'm able to utilize my powers through him.
"That's my son. Do whatever you wish. Control is yours," he says proudly.
The blade connects with Hajime's side, wounding him slightly through burning.
Twenty-Five staggers to his feet with a held to his head.
While in my father's body, I can't injure an inmate. I decide to incapacitate him with a blast of glitter and feathers. I summon them to easily confuse him.
Twenty-Five falls back down as he attempts to swat it all away.
I toss another pink explosion just as I separate from Kiji briefly to jump up and offer a kick to the opposing top. I manage to make a large crack in its side, but it's not enough to win. I re-merge with my father. "I'd rather the victory be shared."
Together, as one, we deal one last blow to Building Thirteen's top.
Hajime scrambles to block us, but the power of the attack knocks him off his feet. The supervisor unfortunately joins his precious inmate.
I leave Kiji's body with a little flip and twist. I land with a striking pose beside him. I face the warden, offering her a dramatic bow.
The warden can't hide her emotions from me. She tried to act satisfied with our performance, but at the same time she wanted Hajime to win.
Mitsuru declares, "A surprising turnout this year! The winners of the matches and going to fight it out for the title are Building Three and Building Four!"
