Me and Rick gathered any weapons we could spare, which was difficult to decide, because we had to leave some things here for the group to protect themselves. Rick basically made all the decisions, handing me guns which I just placed on the metal table behind me.
Michonne was still here, having just finished getting her leg fixed by Hershel. When he was done, he grabbed the first aid box and took it back into the cell block. I now realised that Carl was there too, and when he saw what we were doing, he came over to join us.
"You're going?" His tone wasn't angry, just asking as a confirmation, it seemed. Though, he wasn't asking me, just his dad. I'm sure the fact that I was suited up in the riot gear indicated what I would be doing.
Rick just gave a nod, "Yeah. If all goes well, we'll be back tonight."
I looked at Carl, but he just ignored my gaze. He huffed and turned away, knowing now that he didn't have to guard Michonne with me and Rick here, I assumed. He seemed annoyed. Well, maybe not annoyed, but it was hard to tell what he was thinking under that hat. Maybe he was scared, his dad was marching into enemy territory. This was the last thing any of them needed after yesterday. I don't know, and I didn't really get the chance to ask.
I was worried about him, though. He hated when his dad left, but Rick had a massive undertaking from the moment he stepped foot into the group. Sure, he could have declined being the leader to keep himself safer for his family, but he didn't seem like the kind of person who would do that.
Though, part of me was surprised at how proactive Rick was being just after everything that happened. He could have stayed, for himself. No one would blame him. I would have gone myself, taken Michonne if I believed she would have made the walk. Sure, the help was appreciated, but if the group wasn't up for it, I would find my own way to save Glenn and Maggie.
When Daryl had told Oscar that he was coming, the two of them joined us, and Daryl grabbed a bag from the car, helping Rick pack some of the supplies. We brought everything outside, and dumped it all in the back of the Hyundai.
"I got the flash bangs and I got the tear gas," Rick was telling Oscar as he shoved the bags in the back. "You never know what you're gonna need."
I sat on the boot of the car, waiting for everyone to be ready to leave. Despite how he reacted earlier, Carl came out to watch us go, maybe speak to his dad before he left. Carol had also come out, and was now saying goodbye to Daryl. I would have to wait for everyone to get their goodbyes out, and I did so quietly, knowing that no one would be saying the same to me.
When Rick walked away from the cars to go and speak to Carl, I started kicking my legs back and forth to keep myself busy, glancing at Oscar who leaned back against the car, crossing his arms. I was glad that Rick and Carl had this chance to talk, they needed it after everything that had been happening for the past few days.
Michonne was now limping over to the cars with Beth, and they were now close enough that I could hear their conversation. "Wasn't this place overrun?"
"It was," Beth nodded.
Was, still is. What's the difference?
I'm sure Michonne knew there was still a lot of the prison we had yet to take over, mainly because we didn't need to. She had seen everyone in the group by now, and the 12 of us were doing fine. As fine as we could be when that number used to be 14 not so long ago.
"And you cleared it out all by yourselves?" She asked in disbelief, almost insinuating that Beth was lying. "Just the few of you?"
"There were others," Beth told her.
