"Whisky?"I asked him, completely ignoring his question of my depressing song
He chuckled lightly as he held up a bottle of rum.
"Thanks love, but I've got my own. What are you doing over here by yourself?"
He hopped up next to me, but unlike Elizabeth who merely sat next to me, Jack mirrored my position, bottle in hand and all.
"It's better this way. I'll be less attached to the crew should anything go wrong on this journey. I don't think I can bare the loss of another fallen comrade"
I said looking up at the sky. Jack studied me for a moment, before turning back to the stars
"What will you do if you have another panic attack? Who will help you then should you choose to close your walls off to anybody who would care for you"
I laughed lightly
"Well for one, never step foot in that hell again that'll help avoid another panic attack.. above all, I can handle myself. Nobody should care or worry about me. Not like I can die anyways as I'm sure Tia Dorma told you what she did"
I spoke almost expectedly knowing. He chuckled at this as he took a swig of rum.
"Aye, she told me but if you think I'm here just to woo you, you're wrong. You're a woman of intelligence and morality. I am neither of those things so I already know I don't stand a chance"
Jack had worn a look of amusement the entire time he spoke. I raised a brow at him
"You're smarter than you try to portray yourself as. I don't pretend to know why everybody thinks you're an idiot, you clearly are capable of holding an intellectual conversation with a person.. what I don't understand is why you'd want to waste your time on me knowing it will get you nowhere with me"
I said up and stared down at him with no emotion, while I took another swig of whisky.
"I thought maybe you could just use a friend.. somebody who understands where you come from. If you want me to leave tho-"
"You're fine Jack..I just don't want to get your hopes up. I'm a heartless wench who can't die. My humor is thin, I probably wouldn't be all that fun to begin with"
I admitted more so to myself then to him but he only rolled to his side, propping his head in one hand, holding the rum with the other as he looked down at me
"Sounds like somebody just needs to breathe some life into you is all. You're alive but you sound dead already. Now that, that I think is a waste of time"
Jack spoke quietly. He scanned the ship, seeing if anybody had been snooping. Barbossa at th wheel, Will at the map, Elizabeth beside him, Tia Dorma had gone to bed the others asleep down below.
"Time is but a fleeting moment anyways isn't it? Have you ever felt it before? The love of another?"
I asked with a hint of sadness only to have Jack chuckle
"My love is the sea...that's all I truly need"
He smiled down at me but frowned seeing my frown of disappointment
"I see....well I don't think it's worth the pain..the pain of the inevitable. In the end we always end up alone..miserably..suffocatingly.. alone. I understand your love for the sea tho..she is a hard one to compete with, she's the only one who hasn't left me behind"
I said smiling only to have Jack pull me close to him
"Hey what are you-"
"Shhh Jessie...listen...I think you're very beautiful..no that's not what I wanted to say..I think your mind is beautiful"
