The Egg

It had been a few days since the Yule Ball and Fred found out Cedric slept with me that night. He had came into my Dormitory to apologize for running away but saw us in bed. I haven't spoken to him since, I've just been avoiding him as much as possible. I was on my way to my first class of the day. "Hey Black!" Someone yelled.

I turned around and saw Cedric. "Hi Cedric." I greeted.

"How are you?" He asked.

"Spectacular." I said sarcastically.

"Look. I know things haven't been the best lately...but I'm here for you. In fact I'm helping right now. I never thanked you properly for you telling me about the dragons-"

"No, it's fine Cedric. Really, I don't need anything-" I started.

"You know the prefects bathroom on the fifth floor?" Cedric interrupted me.

"Yes." I said.

"Listen, just stick the egg under the water..." Cedric whispered into my ear before walking away.

Under the water? How'd he figure that out? Maybe he causally takes his egg with him everywhere he goes. That's pretty weird....

Time Skip To Later That Night

I was in the prefects bathroom with my egg, I had on a bathing suit. I took off my clothes leaving my swimsuit on underneath and climbed into the bath. It was more like a gigantic pool, but I guess people bathed in here? I put my egg under the water and dunk my head under the water. I opened the egg cautiously...

"Come seek us where our voices sound.
We cannot sing above the ground.
An hour long you'll have to look
to recover what we took."

I closed the egg and got my head out of the water quickly, gasping for air. The egg had just sung? It clicked in my brain. "The merpeople in the Black Lake! I read about them with Hermione..." I said to myself.

Time Skip To Next Day

"Y/n, tell me again." Hermione paced around the library.

"Come seek us where our voices sound." I repeated.

"The black lake that's obvious." Hermione stated.

"An hour long you'll have to look." I said.

"Again obvious, though I must admit potentially problematic." Hermione told me.

"Potentially problematic? When was the last time you held your breath under the water for an hour Hermione?" I snapped at her.

"Look Y/n we can figure this out. The four of us." Hermione said.

We watched as Mad-Eye Moody hobbled over to our table we were sitting at. "Hate to break up this scholar session but Professor McGonagall would like to see you in her office. Not you Black and Weasley, just Potter and Granger." Mad-Eye explained.

"But sir, the second task is only a few hours away-" Hermione started.

"Exactly." Mad-Eye interrupted."Presumably Black is well prepared by now and could do with a good night's sleep. Go. Now! Longbottom!"

Neville looked over to where we were sitting and walked over slowly and cautiously. "Yes sir?" His hands trembled a bit.

"Why don't you help Black put her books away?" Moody offered.

Mad-Eye walked away with Hermione and Harry, leaving me with Ron and Neville. "Bloody git, could've asked me." Ron claimed as he rolled his eyes.

"Oh yeah, as if you'd help me. C'mon Neville lets put these up." I told them.
