Sonic woke up first and saw Shadow was still sleeping, getting up slowly and headed downstairs and outside for fresh air and also to think

the longer I stay here the more questions run in my head. what happened between the mortals and them, when did it happen and why, and why can't I stay here when I'm a mortal? I even asked Shadow these questions but he told me it was nothing for me to worry about.

Sonic was determined to find information and headed back downstairs to the library.

looking around he saw many books and wanted to search for ones about history first before he checked the recent books, soaking in as much information he could find but still found no answers till he started reading one book called 'The Book of Wars' and started flipping through the pages only to find some missing from being turned out of the book.

Sonic: it's near the end of the book too, so it must have been the last war they had....maybe another book?

 just in case, he opened it and flipped through the pages again before reading and again saw that some pages at the end had been pulled out, giving up on the idea that he would find the answer here.

Sonic: damn it!.......there must be a book in town I can get with it all still intact

just then, as Sonic put away the last book, Shadow appeared and assumed he was looking for him and quickly thought of something on the spot before walking up to Shadow

''think Sonic, think.....I'm down here to uh?.....see if they have a ceremony like marriage.....Bah, screw it, that will have to do

Shadow: what are you doing in here little mate?

Sonic: Ceremony

Shadow read the teen's mind as Sonic predicted he would do and saw that he was telling the truth

Shadow: I see, but umm.....are you interested to know what we do?

Sonic: I know you bite your mate and claim them but I was wondering if you do anything else, like a ceremony?

Shadow: no I'm afraid not, but we can arrange something if you are serious about that

showing a smirk as he assumed that Sonic wanted a ceremony and snuggled up to him while Sonic concentrated on thinking of the subject

Sonic: I...may want one, but if you guys don't do one then that's fine

Shadow: no it's not, if you want one then we will have one arranged and have everyone celebrate in the territory with us

Sonic: as long as you don't invite the two pricks from yesterday

Shadow: you really do have a foul mouth as well as a mind when insulting someone

Sonic: can you please stop invading my mind, please?

Shadow laughs as they both walk back to get some breakfast together.

later Shadow said that he had to do some work in his office and arrange more security measures around his territory but was unsettled at the fact that he would have to leave the teen unattended.

Sonic: don't worry I'll be fine on my own. I'll just stay here, safely inside the castle while you are working

Shadow: I don't know if....

Sonic: Shadow seriously go, I promise that I will be fine and I'll be right here when you get back

''I'll just get some sleep and read a book or something, why has he got to be so protective when there is no one but me in this room?''

Shadow read the teen's mind and heard this, thinking that the teen would be okay and even thought to himself that he might be too possessive over him

Shadow:.....fine, alright. I'll be a couple of hours, just don't have too much sleep okay 

Sonic: I won't see you after you finish your work

Shadow closed the door behind him with Sonic hearing in the silence that he was stepping away in a distance till he no longer heard them and breathed a judge sigh of relief.

Sonic: it was about time he left me alone.....I didn't realize it was so hard not to have certain things on my mind

now that he had a chance to think freely, he got the idea to leave the castle and quickly grabbed a book from the town before Shadow finished his work and realized that he was gone.

grabbing some coins that he had in the draw and  then grabbing a clock before jumping out of the balcony window, checking if it was clear before leaving the preeminence

running till he got to the middle of the town and frantically looking for a book stall to then find one and look at the various books to find a copy of 'The Book of war' 

Sonic: this is the one perfect.....how much is this book sir?

the stall owner said it would cost one bronze coin however Sonic only had gold ones and handed it to him with the other having no change to give him. 

Sonic told him to keep the change but the other wouldn't allow it and handed him many more books till it was a silver coin worth and then passed the teen a bronze coin as change.

The teen thanked him and quickly dashed back to the castle, sneaking in without being noticed by the guards. Once back at the balcony window, he looked around and saw that the bedroom was still empty.

Sonic: 'Phew' chaos, that was nerve-wracking. now, where should I put these without Shadow seeing them.......the library!

he took the clock off and put it away before casually walking out of the bedroom and to the library
