Sirius Black was not a possessive man. Growing up, he had a brother whom he shared most of his things with, that was until they grew apart. Apart from that, Sirius Black never got territorial about stuff he cared about. That went on till he became best friends with a certain gryffindor in the first year. Sirius and her got along instantly, especially considering how she was the supposed golden girl. She had the perfect balance of silliness and (pun not intended) seriousness. Y/N was a force of nature to reckon with. She always got what she wanted and she was so fucking smart in her studies and so damn good in everything she did - she was mostly the reason why James and Sirius' pranks always worked out. Whenever the trio got a dose of Remus' unimpressed look (which never happened alot, but it happened that one time during McGonagall's class while she was giving the students important notes to study for her upcoming test) she would roll her eyes and tell him to loosen up (Y/N scored the highest among her classmates in that test) She always kept to herself and usually hung out with her fellow classmates from the same house. And she enjoyed it that way. She would spend her extra time with the marauders whenever she wasn't with Lily and Marlene. This time, her two worlds collided and the entire gang was together in the Hog's Head on a chilly winter day before a few of them left for christmas break.

"For fuck's sake, I thought we weren't gonna discuss about our classes today?" Y/N whined as the topic of Slughorn's lengthy homework on bezoar came up. She was yet to start her 4 page essay and listening to Lily rave about how she was enjoying her NEWT level potions class was not helping her case.

Lily turned red, "Sorry, I couldn't help myself." Everyone around the table snickered at her. They all adored her passion for potions but really, today was not the day. Everyone needed a break after the hectic week they'd all had.

"Thank you, Lils." Y/N smiled at her and leaned back on her chair as her shoulder brushed against Sirius'. He placed his hand on her thigh to reassure her and she visibly relaxed.

James turned to Marlene with a mischievous look in his eyes, "Okay, then let's talk about how I overheard Matthew telling his Hufflepuff boys how he wants to ask you out next week."

Marlene's eyes widened in surprise and she turned fully to James while Y/N laughed, "MATTHEW? BLONDE HAIR, GREY EYES MATTHEW?"

Sirius took a sip of his butterbeer with his right hand and muttered so low only Y/N heard him, "Well, she only knows of one Matthew whom she's been crushing on for the longest time. Who the fuck else could it be?"

Y/N playfully nudged Sirius and glanced at the foam at the corner of his lips, "Play nice, Sirius, no one likes a sour puss."

Sirius turned to her and smirked as the two of them drowned out the conversation happening around them, "Sweetheart, you're just happy about the fact that I owe you 10 Galleons."

"Pay up, Black." Her expression mirrored his as she wiped the foam with her thumb, "Try to pay attention to the things around you and maybe you'll win the next bet."

She stuck her hand out under the table between them as Sirius rolled his eyes and fished out the amount and placed it on her open palm discreetly. She pocketed it and smiled victoriously. Sirius traced his thumb on her thigh and smiled, amused, "You only won this bet because you asked Prongs to spy on Matthew after Quidditch practice."

She gasped, "Lies. How do you come up with such false accusations, Sirius? I truly and personally could not ever fathom coming to such a conclusion based on zero factual evidence-"
