(Also, this is my first time writing an autistic character so I'm sorry if she's not the best. But I'm autistic myself and autism was a hyperfixation of mine for a while, so I think I'm good.)
(Don't pay too much attention to the one spell that I made up please.)
"Everybody, welcome to the castle!" Baileywick announced to the servants in front of him. Recently, the king had recruited some new maids to work in the castle, and tomorrow was their first day at the job. So, today was the perfect time for them to move in and become familiar with the space. "I believe you have already met your new roommates; pair up with them and you are free to leave to your designated rooms. Get settled, unpack your things, and get a lot of sleep, because you start working tomorrow early in the morning." He instructed them.
(Y/N) didn't find her roommate yet. She gripped the handle of her suitcase tightly and looked around, searching for a lonely senior maid who would hopefully be looking for her.
"Hi!" A woman greeted her from behind.
(Y/N) was startled, but she quickly composed herself and turned around to face the woman. "Hello." She spoke, not looking the maid in the face.
"I'm Suzette, and you seem to be my new roommate!" She introduced herself.
"I guess I do." The other woman replied flatly. "I'm (Y/N)."
"What a lovely name!" Suzette commented. "I just know we'll be the best roommates ever!" She cheered. She seemed to be thrilled that all of this was happening.
(Y/N) flinched at Suzette's squeals of excitement, as the noise startled her. She nodded insecurely, and looked at the hallway that the other maids were headed for.Suzette noticed where (Y/N)'s gaze was directed. "Right. Let's go to our room!" She grabbed her wrist and pulled her through the hallway. (Y/N) quickly drew her wrist out of Suzette's grip, but she held the fast pace that the maid had established. "It's small and simple, but it's a home. You have your own bed, and your uniform is already waiting for you on it, nice and ironed." Suzette started explaining. "For starters, tomorrow, and for the whole following week, you will be cleaning the windows in the hallway that leads to the ballroom, as well as sweeping and mopping the floor there. The first part of your shift starts at 8 in the morning and lasts until 2, and then you have a two-hour break for lunch and whatever else you need. Then the second part starts at 4, and it's finally over at 8 p.m."
"That's ten hours of work." (Y/N) noticed. "Shouldn't we only be working for eight?"
"Yes, but they like to overwork us here." Suzette giggled. "Here we are!" She announced as she unlocked the door of the room.It was as plain as Suzette had described it. The walls were of a light grey color, and the floor was tiled. There were two beds, one on each side of the room, with light blue and white bedding, matching the maids' uniforms. The left bed seemed to be Suzette's, since on the right one there were five of the same light blue dress, two white aprons, a pair of black flat shoes, and a white hat with a blue bow, all waiting for (Y/N). Behind the headboards of each bed there was a closet, placed far enough from the beds so that they could open. Finally, between the beds, on the wall opposite from the door, there was a window through which the sun could be seen as it was setting.
"Oh, the long talks we'll have through the night and then go to work sleep-deprived and running on nothing but coffee! We can invite the others in and have little gossip parties; I can't wait!" Suzette squealed again.
(Y/N) dropped her suitcase on the floor and covered her ears to save herself from the discomfort of her roommate being so loud. Suzette noticed this, and immediately stopped talking, but she was unsure what was going on.
"I... understand that you're excited, but can you please not scream like that? I have trouble with loud noises." (Y/N) spoke.
"Oh. Sorry." Suzette replied quietly.
"You can talk normally, it's fine, but please, don't be so loud." (Y/N) added.
"Right." Suzette looked around the room, thinking what to say next. "Well, as Baileywick said, get settled and get lots of sleep. A busy day is waiting for you tomorrow." She advised her and opened the door of the room to leave. "Oh, and if you see any member of the royal family – the king, queen, or the children – curtsy to them, but don't talk to them unless they speak to you first."
"Do I curtsy to anyone else?" (Y/N) asked.
"Not if they're not royalty." Suzette told her and left the room to go find her coworkers.
