(Again, don't mind the spells.)

"Oh, Wormwood! This cake has turned out way better than I expected!" Cedric exclaimed as he admired the dessert on the desk in front of him, to which the raven cawed. It was the morning of (Y/N)'s birthday, who was his girlfriend, the love of his life, and the most important person in the realm to him. If he could, he would give her the world for her special day, but after only a few months of being officially together, he thought that a chocolate cake with rainbow sprinkles and a day spent with him would be more than enough. "Sure, next time I could bake it myself instead of conjuring it, but we can't afford messing this up, now, can we?" He spoke to his animal companion. "Perhaps next year." He giggled. "Now, for the final touch... Candelo!" He pointed his magic wand at the cake, and colorful candles appeared on top of it, formed in a circle. "We're almost done!" He announced to Wormwood, who was sitting on his shoulder, uninterested in his master's work. All the sorcerer needed to do now was actually light the candles. "Pyro..."

"Hey, Cedric!" (Y/N) burst through the door, excited to spend the day with the sorcerer more than usually.
"...cakeus!" He shouted the wrong spell as she startled him. A ray of magical light shot at the cake and set the entire thing on fire. "Oh, no." Cedric gasped. "Oh, no, no, no, no, no!"
"You fool!" Wormwood squawked as he flew off Cedric's shoulder and started circling around the workshop. "The spell was Pyro candleus, not Pyro cakeus! That present wasn't even good to begin with, but now you've got nothing at all!" He scolded him, but since Cedric couldn't understand him, nothing came of that.
"Oh, my goodness!" (Y/N) screamed when she saw flames and smoke lift into the air from the table by which Cedric was standing. "What happened? Are you alright?" She ran over to check on him.
"Calm down, Wormwood, I've got everything under control!" Cedric assured the bird, as he assumed that he was making all that noise in a panic. He conjured up a giant drop of water above the burning cake and let it fall down on the table. It extinguished the fire, but also knocked over some empty chemistry dishes and got a big portion of a spell book wet.

"What was that?" (Y/N) asked again when everything calmed down a little.
"Oh, nothing, just another one of my spells gone wrong." Cedric chuckled to ease the situation, although (Y/N) could hear in his voice that he wanted to cry.
She placed her hand on his shoulder and rubbed it up and down his back to comfort him. "Hey, it's alright. What was it supposed to be?" She spoke in hopes of making him feel better if he just talked about what he had in mind.
"Nothing, as I said, it's not important." Cedric insisted on keeping her uninformed. "How about you go somewhere else while I clean this up?" He suggested.
"Why don't I help you clean it?" (Y/N) noticed. "I was thinking to spend the whole day with you anyway-"
"There's no need!" Cedric let out another forced chuckle. "Um... who knows what all kinds of toxic fumes are coming out of this fire here." He tried to think of a good excuse. "Just, uh... you'll be somewhere around the castle, right? I-I won't be long, don't worry. I'll see you then!" He said everything without directly looking at (Y/N).
She let out a deep sigh and felt her eyes sting a little. She looked at Cedric's back, hoping that any moment now he would turn around with a laugh, apologize for this cruel prank and wish her the happiest of birthdays instead. She really loved him, and in the few months that they've been together she grew closer to him than she ever knew was possible. Still, she never expected that him not congratulating her, or saying anything about her birthday would feel this horrible. "Okay." She finally muttered.

Cedric listened to her walk out of the workshop and close the door behind her. When he thought she was far enough from the door, he let out a loud groan of frustration and grabbed his bangs to express the feeling even more.
"Oh, Wormy, whatever will I do now?" He cried to his raven. "The only gift I had for her is completely burnt, and I don't have time to think of anything else!"
"Tell her what happened and move on with it!" Wormwood shouted at the sorcerer, but he didn't understand him again. "Goodness!" He sighed at his master's incapability of solving problems.
