"Same to you," I respond with an unsure smile. "The boys and I were talking about you before" I continue, making sure to keep my voice level even though the urge to jump off a cliff is itching at each and every one of my bones.
"To be expected, they can never keep my name out of their mouths, can they? Especially this one." Natalia gestures to Luke suggestively with another blinding smile, her voice sending chills down my spine.
"Nat," Luke mutters with an edge of warning, his eyes - per usual - not revealing anything as to what he's thinking.
"What? I'm just joking, duh" Natalia says, rolling her eyes. I shift uncomfortably on the couch, offering her a polite smile. "Anyway, Violet, I heard you're joining carpool," Natalia continues.
"Okay that's enough," Luke says, coming over to me and grabbing my arm. "We're gonna head out now, Nat". I rise from the couch and snatch my arm from his grip.
What's his deal?
I walk over to Natalia to say goodbye. "See you Monday, Nat" I say, putting on my sweetest smile.
"Yeah, whatever." Natalia mutters so only I can hear. "I don't like you, Newbie. And he'll never pick you so keep dreaming." she continues, crossing her arms over her chest. Taken aback, my smile falters a bit.
"He all yours," I quickly recover, turning my smile up multiple watts. Natalia only scoffs lightly in response, as I begin to turn away.
"C'mon Luke, the boys are waiting" I say, walking out of the room without sparing either of them a second glance.
In about five paces, Luke has caught up to me - with no more than two paces of his own, that tall bastard.
"You alright there, Love?" Luke smirks at me.
"Just peachy, you?" I huff out, eager to get to the car.
"I'm great, you sure you're okay?" He says, and for a fleeting moment, he sounds almost concerned.
"I'm fine." I snap, flinging open the ornate french door, desperate for fresh air.
Luke doesn't respond, opting to just stare at me.
"What?" I ask, annoyed.
"I'm not dating Natalia." Luke states.
"I didn't ask, Lukey." I say annoyed.
"Love, you're being difficult." Luke sighs, raking his hand through his hair. A (nervous?) habit that I've picked up on.
"I'm being difficult? You know what, I'm sure no one's ever told you this, but the world doesn't revolve around you. Go to hell," I snap, digging my pointer finger into his chest, adding "You're nothing to me".
Luke's jaw clenches and he looks away from me. Turning away from me, he storms over to Elliot's car wordlessly.
_____
"Shhh," I shush a very drunk Drew, who's arms are currently slung around Elliott and David as Luke opens the front door to David's house.
"Don't worry, my parents are away in Hong Kong for a business trip" David says.
"Awww, I love you Violet," Drew slurs, patting my cheek affectionately.
"C'mon, let's get you to bed." I say, letting David lead us to a basement converted to a mancave slash den situation.
After David and Elliott set Drew down on the huge sectional couch, I cover Drew with the throw blanket that was strewn on the backside of the couch.
Drew nuzzles into the couch, and with a sigh, he was off to sleep in seconds.
"Whew, what a night." I flop down on the couch by Drew's feet, careful not to disturb his sleep.
"We were all gonna crash at David's place tonight," Elliot says, scratching his neck, "but I can drive you back to Cecelia's now, if you'd like," he continues.
"I don't wanna make you drive again just for me..." I say, furrowing my brows, thinking of another way I could get home. "I'll just order an uber or something, I guess" I say with a shrug.
"No way," Luke interjects, "I'm not letting you get into an uber right now when it's late and you're alone. And intoxicated." he huffs.
"Luke's right." David says. "You can just crash here." He says flatly, seemingly uninterested in my dilemma.
"Hm okay, any way I could get a change of clothes though?" I ask.
"Oh, I'll help you, no worries," Elliot says, getting up from a huge beanbag.
"Nah, I got it." Luke says, walking towards the stairs.
"Okay," I shrug, following Luke.
Once we get upstairs, Luke stops at a door and reveals a minimally furnished modern bedroom.
"This is the guest room that I crash at sometimes," Luke explains, walking towards the dresser situated against the wall.
I hum in response, sitting at the edge of the bed and looking around. Luke grabs some clothes and comes to hand them to me.
"Here, wear these, bathroom's right there."
I take the clothes and make my way to the connected bathroom, closing the door behind me.
I scrutinize myself in the mirror, wiping at my smudged mascara and brushing my hands through my tangled hair. It's no use, and I still look rough after. The night starts to catch up with my body, and I feel tired as I pull on the clothes that Luke gave me. It smells like him. Perfectly musky and rich. I tie the grey sweats as tight as I can, cuffing the bottoms to fit my height. The faded band t-shirt is oversized on me, practically reaching my knees. Not my greatest look, but it'll have to do. At least I'm comfortable.
When I exit the bathroom, Luke is facing away from me, pulling on a white t-shirt over his head and god the back muscles on that man. I physically have to force myself to pull my eyes away from him, and shut the bathroom door behind me. At the noise, Luke turns around. His gaze turns dark and intense as he takes in my form. I shift uncomfortably under his gaze, suddenly feeling very awake, any sign of my previous exhaustion gone.
"You look good in my clothes, love." He says throatily, exiting the room before I could respond.
