*Clink, clink*
The sound of utensils scraping against plates fills the luxurious dining room.
"So, Violet, I heard from your grandmother that you will be attending the academy with the boys" Elliot's mother, Rose, says.
"Sorry?" I ask, snapping out of whatever daydream I was in. Despite the AC in the house, I'm sweating, mostly because of how uncomfortable this situation is. I'm sitting in between Luke and Andrew, with Mom next Mamie who is sitting at the head of the table, and Elliot and his parents sitting across from me and the rest of the boys. Mamie had been ecstatic to have more guests, but dinner had been mostly quiet so far besides introductions and greetings despite Rose, Mamie, and Mom's attempts at easing the awkwardness in the room.
Rose repeats herself, and I answer, "Yep, starting Monday when their summer break ends".
"Oh that's wonderful!" Rose exclaims. "Elliot, you should invite her to do carpool with you guys! Shouldn't he, honey?" she continues with a wide smile. Mr. Devineaux simply grunts in response.
"The boys carpool to school together in the mornings rather than driving on their own or having their chauffeurs take them, they like it better." She explains when I flash her a confused expression.
"That sounds great, she'll do it. Right sweetie?" Mamie chimes in.
As I'm about to respond, Lucas pipes up, "Yeah, but it's not just us. Nat does it with us too".
"Slow down everybody! Please!" I exclaim, causing everybody to stop talking.
"Thank you for the offer, that sounds great, I'll think about it," I continue, "And who's 'Nat'?".
"Oh, Natalia is the boys' best friend from childhood. The boys have been inseparable since they were in preschool, and they met her, gosh, in second grade I think it is. She's a good girl, I think you two could become friends. And, she's also majoring in ballet!" Rose replies excitedly.
"Oh," I say stupidly, digesting all of the information I just received. She seems nice, and I really want to make a girl friend. Hopefully I can talk to her about ballet and other stuff. That is, if we become friends.
"But are you guys sure that it's okay?" I ask. "I don't want to impose. Also, I don't have a license so I wouldn't be able to drive".
"Oh don't be silly Violet," Rose says. "Of course it's okay. You don't need to drive.".
"Okay, well now that that's sorted, of course you can join us Vi!" Andrew nearly shouts in my ear, nudging me. At my side, I see Luke inwardly groan and roll his eyes. Clearly somebody is unhappy with this arrangement. I don't know why, but for some reason, that makes me want to join more than ever.
"I would love that," I say with a shit-eating grin, making sure that Luke sees.
Annoying ass motherfucker. I will gladly ruin every one of his mornings.
The thought of this makes me smirk, and while everyone is engaged in their own conversations and food, Luke whispers in my ear, "What's so funny, Love?".
I roll my eyes, and I whisper back, "Just thinking about how I'm going to ruin every one of your mornings, Lukey".
"Don't call me that".
"Don't call me Love".
"That's different".
"I don't see how, Lukey. Now leave me alone and eat your dinner. You're a pain in the ass".
Luke doesn't respond, and instead he just sits there staring down at me. Yes, down. This fucker is a whole skyscraper. Even sitting down I can tell that Elliot's pants are too short on him, even though Elliot is pretty tall himself. Not to mention that I am above average height at 5'9".
