An extremely short chapter but inspiration is rare these days.

Thanks for sticking by me.

Enjoy :)

It was a few days before I saw Richard again. I got the feeling that he was actively avoiding me. We were usually in the same places at the same time and now only dust gathered where he used to sit. It was almost as if I missed his presence.

I was walking by the courtyard one day during lunch figuring that I'd just eat in my office when I saw a familiar mop of hair. I took a breath and walked over to Richard. There was a small garden nearby that made for a peaceful view.

"I see that you're still around." I said as I sat on the bench next to him.

"Huh?" He asked as he took a bite of his sandwich.

"I haven't seem you around lately." I shrugged. "You always eat in the break room."

"I've been eating out here longer. There's no reason to sit in there anymore." He said.

"It's cleaner and you won't get bugs in your food." I pointed to a fly buzzing around.

"I like it out here. It's calming."

"Is there something that that made you restless?" I asked

He shook his head. I was about to ask another question when Richard spoke up. "Why are you even here, Jeremy? This entire year you've been treating me like scum and now you're concerned about my wellbeing?" He narrowed his eyes. "What do you want from me?"

"Nothing." I stood up and straightened my shirt. "I'll leave you then."

"Jeremy..."

"It's fine. I had some work to complete anyway." I walked away before I could make a further fool of myself.

Stupid, stupid, you absolutely stupid son of a bitch. I mentally slapped myself for my ignorance. I felt as thought I were a child in a playground and instead of being nice to my crush- not that Richard was my crush- I tried to coerce him onto my side. I was an idiot and Richard probably thought so too.

I thanked the heavens that the day seemed to fly by me. At the end of the day I jumped into my car and sped off home.

When I get home, Casey was sitting at the kitchen counter eating cereal. I looked at her for a second before moving to put my things away. She was still sitting there when I came back dressed more comfortably in a sweatpants and a t-shirt. Casey's silence was bothering me. She was never quiet.

"Something the matter?" I asked sitting down next to her.

"Not really." She shrugged.

"Okay."

We remained silent for a few more seconds before Casey let her spoon drop into her bowl and dashed off down the hall. Frantic, I followed her and found her leaning over the toilet bowl. I held her hair up as she emptied out the contents of her stomach. I wet a cloth and handed it to her when she was done.

"When did the morning sickness start?

"A few days ago."

"Casey, we're in this together. I want to know about things like this. It'll help me know what to do when it happens." She looked away guilty.

"I didn't want to bother you." She said in a soft voice.

"You won't be bothering me. You're carrying our child, and I care about you as much as I do that baby. Don't shut me out, please." I held on to her hand and pulled her to me for a hug.
