ミ★ ( obsidian, act one ) ★彡Blood. It's the thing a vampire craves most in their eternal life. Their life centres around it; and they almost become like addicts when it comes to it, wondering when the next time they'll get their hands on their next hit; the hit being warm substance that flows through the veins of humans. Some vampires try to yearn for more than just blood, as if they'll get more fulfilment from companionship or a home, whereas most just want to feed wherever and whenever they felt like it. The Cullens, mainly, were those people that wished to live amongst the humans rather than off them. Amias never truly understood why until he joined them in Forks and met Bella Swan.
He could withstand a long time without feeding; he's grown to control his urges due to his age. He's not like a newborn who cannot be within a few miles of a beating heart without insatiably trying to feed off of them. But, at the end of the day, vampirism is embedded in his genetic code—he still craves blood whether he likes it or not, and there will be times where a scent will almost get the better of him. Bella Swan managed to almost get the better of him once, he could not allow that to happen again.
Amias doesn't like the taste of animal blood. It takes like tar going down his throat. It's bitter and tastes off compared to the sweet and nourishing taste of human blood; but, if he wants to fit in with the humans, he must comply with the rules—he must become used to the taste, and grow to enjoy it. Surprisingly, animal blood doesn't diminish his power or strength, however, it doesn't give the same euphoric feeling of hunting a human beforehand. Humans have been hunting animals for millions of years. Humans hunting humans is still as old as time, but much more adolescent. It's a vampire's nature to hunt humans, not animals such as deer, bears or mountain lions. It's just not the same for Amias despite some saying it is. He misses it. The chase still exists, animals still feel fear. But, they don't scream like humans do, which makes the thrill of the chase redundant.
Whenever he gets close to relapsing to his old ways, all he can picture is Bella's face in front of him, and instead of moving forward and sinking his teeth into their skin; he repels backwards in fear of hurting her. She's so fragile and he has the power to break her. He's not used to not using his power, and he is still attempting to try and contain it so he doesn't hurt her.
It's why he's skipping Biology today, because it's safer for the humans if the vampires didn't attend the classes on days where human blood was going to be spilled on purpose—their teacher had let them know that it was blood typing day, and Amias didn't really trust himself not to pounce on the first person to prick their finger with the needle because of how starved he was from human blood. He's sat in Edward's Volvo, on the edge of losing control, because he wants it so bad. He wants to sink his teeth into human flesh and feel the warm, sweet blood that he's so accustomed to tasting. He's trying not to breathe in the smell of blood that lingers around the school; instead, he focuses on the sound of soft classical music that he's turned up so loud to drown out everything else.
