"No, my dad passed away when I was 12, he was my hero you could say." I listen to Fenicia as she answered my questions.
"If you don't mind me asking, how'd he pass?" I pull her close to my side as she began to look a little more upset.
"My dad was protecting his family." She sighs and we take a seat on a park bench. "If I could change anything, I'd change that day." Her head meets my shoulder.
"I'm sorry." I say as I play with her hair to comfort her.
"But then my mom and Bragstin's dad got together and that's when things got better for me, I had another brother to look after me and another dad to protect us." A smile began to grow on her face.
Things were quiet for a while and it was an enjoyable silence.
"I want to go home." Fenicia says standing up.
"Then let's get you home" I stand up after her and with that, we began to walk in silence.
"You know, my dad didn't want my mom to leave the house the night he passed, she didn't listen." I place my arm around her. "Instead she went out, got drunk and some scary dude followed her home, he barged into our home later that night in search for my mother but he found me instead." I feel like I know where this story is going. "He did things to me and I screamed as loud as I could but he just tried to quiet me and it didn't work, my dad heard my screams and attacked the man, my dad was killed in attempt to save me and then the man just got away and he's still out there after what he did." Fenicia stops and sits on a rock and begins to cry. "I just want my dad back that's all."
"Get on my back, we're going somewhere." I kneel down and wait for her to get on my back and when she does I stand up. "Now you can't tell anyone about where we're going." I turn into a wooded area with a path.
"I promise." She manages through her tears.
A few minutes pass and there we are standing on a beach not many people knew about.
"This is where I come when I need to clear my mind, I never come this late but there's a first for everything." I shrug as I gently placed her down in the sand.
"It's pretty." A smile meets her face. "It reminds me of the day I met Bragstin."
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah, our parents wanted us to meet so we did, just two 14 year olds with a dream of a family." She sits and pauses "My mom laughed when we first met, she always says that Bragstin had a little crush on me since day one." I chuckle.
"Wow, that's crazy." I sit beside her "You know when I met you I was afraid I wouldn't become your friend?" She looks at me.
"Why?" Fenicia becomes confused.
"I've seen you in Bragstin's videos, I knew who you were from the start and Bragstin just doesn't really like me." I admit to his hatred.
"Ahh, Bragstin just doesn't know you, that's all." Fenicia tries to make me feel better.
"He knows me, we used to be good friends but then girls came into our eyes and bam our friendship just ended like that." I feel a hand on my back. "You know maybe he's just over thinking the whole situation."
"Maybe he is, but in time well see but for now it's just you and me I guess." And with that our friendship was built on sand and our hearts.
"I'm happy I showed you around." I smile
"I am too." We sit in the sand for what seemed like hours looking out at the moonlight shining on the water, we tall more about her family and her father. Hey, it was her choice, not mine.
Our night comes to an end together and I hope we do it all again.
