CODY POV

I was sat in Noah's room playing video games when his Mom burst through the door.

This didn't surprise me, she always did this. She was a bundle of energy and I envied Noah for this (not in a bad way of course!)

She came in with a box with a few holes poked into the side, I was confused until I saw the box slowly move.

Noah looked just as confused as me at first.

"Mom what is this?" He asked eyeing the box, now placed on the floor, suspiciously.

"Open it sweetie!" She stated in her happy-go-lucky manner.

Noah reluctantly rolled his eyes and opened the box carefully, inside a ball of fluff poked his head out wagging its tail.

I noticed Noah's face instantly soften as he picked up the puppy and cradled it in his arms, he looked over the moon.

Once his Mom had left after thanking her a million times, Noah turned to me.

"What should I name him?" Noah asked excitedly. I was taken aback by his behaviour, usually Noah was as grumpy as ever but this dog seemed to bring out his caring side.

"Definitely Violet!" I stated. I don't know why I decided on that name, I'd always sworn to myself I'd name any pet I got Violet after my old Cat.

Noah's dog didn't even look remotely Violet. (I mean how weird would that be!) She was a snowy, velvet, white colour with a black button nose and droopy ears. She honestly looked perfect for Noah as she just sat their impatiently wagging her tail.

Noah shrugged at my idea. "How do you like your new name, Violet?" He cooed.

I giggled at this and picked Violet up in my arms. "Who's a good girl?" I asked rubbing her stomach gently. Violet seemed to like this a lot and rolled around panting.

Noah stared at me in awe at how easily I handled his own dog. I noticed this and embarrassed, put her down rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.

Noah just stared in shock but burst out laughing once he saw how embarrassed I was. "Dude how did you learn to be some dog whisperer?" He joked.

I was confused at his remark but I had had pets before so I guess it came natural to me, I just shrugged it off and we continued to play video games. My heart fluttered at the thought that Noah was impressed with me, why was I acting like this?

NOAH POV

My heart skipped a beat as I thought about how easily he handled Violet, my new dog. How did he learn how to do this?

Why was my heart racing? Why did I feel so hot and flustered? No! I liked this girl called Emma I couldn't like Cody that would be weird.

I snapped out of my unusual train of thought and stared confused at Cody's embarrassed face, did he realise?

My confusion came to realisation that he was just shy with the fact he knew so much about animals. I laughed at this.

He just shrugged it off and we went back to playing the video game.

I was so confused on what I was feeling. Probably just my admiration for Cody! He was my best friend after all so it's probably a platonic kind of feeling.

I kept beating him in Mario Kart every time we played so I don't know why we even bothered starting a new round.

"WHY DO YOU ALWAYS WINNN!!!" Cody whined shoving his controller on the floor.

"Your going to break it!, here let me show you how to properly steer since your the master at bumping into walls." I chuckled.

Cody looked at me in admiration as I showed him how to properly use the controller since mine was very different to his high tech controllers he had at home.

Mine was your standard type of X-box controller while he had a full on Nintendo Switch! Lucky.

Cody was a lot richer than me, he lived in a big fancy house he had all to himself since his parents never seemed to really be home now when they got their new job.

It was good enough for me though, I could always go round to his house without our game constantly being interrupted like it was at my house.

"Here you go!" I cheerfully said handing him the controller. "Probably harder since you use the more high tech controllers." I nudged him laughing.

Cody seemed upset by this and stood up abruptly.

Cody shut off the game and stormed downstairs grabbing his coat, struggling to tie his shoe laces.

"Hey what's wrong?" I questioned Cody's behaviour, confused. Cody never acted this mad and all I said was the fact his controller was better than mine? What's so bad about that? He should be happy I thought his was way cooler than mine!

Cody rolled his eyes slamming the door behind him.

What was that about?

I ran to my room and grabbed my phone to text Cody, maybe I could find out what made him react like that.

BOOKWORM📚: Hey Cody! What's up? I'm confused why you left, you didn't even say goodbye? I just want to talk.

I sighed putting my phone down, plopping myself down on my bed staring up at the ceiling.

Why would he react like that? He never was sensitive about how rich he was. Cody always boasted about the new electronics he always got from his parents as a 'sorry I don't care enough about you' gift. I didn't mind though - I just thought it was cool he got such great things but other kids at school would get pissed at him.

Maybe he thought I was pissed? I'm not sure.

It had been around 10 minutes before I picked up my phone to check for a reply.

BOOKWORM📚: Hey Cody! What's up? I'm confused why you left, you didn't even say goodbye? I just want to talk.

READ AT 9:30pm

So he had read it! "Why was he ignoring me?" I pondered. I decided to leave it for tomorrow and let him sleep on it.

The next morning I woke up and almost flew out the door as I headed to school. I had to talk to Cody but I didn't know how, he wouldn't just ignore me would he?

I soon learned that's exactly what he did. When he locked eyes with me in first period he just looked away teary eyed, I didn't even know what I did and he was crying over it?

I decided to speak with him at lunch, I walked over casually and sat next to him.

"Cody?" I asked sympathetically. "I'm sorry if I made you upset but I don't know what I did!" I carefully protested, not wanting to make him more mad.

Cody ignored me for a few seconds but then his face seemed to soften slightly.

Cody sighed and turned to face me "I'm sorry, I thought you were making fun of me and I didn't know how to react." He looked so genuine and upset I felt bad.

"I'm so sorry Cody! I just thought your stuff was way cooler!" I exclaimed throwing my arms around his neck.

CODY POV

My heart skipped a beat as he threw his arms around my neck in triumph. I couldn't stay mad at him for too long.

We both apologised and continued the day as normal, best friends again.
