Forsaken Tower: Chapter 7 - To Fall From Glory

Silvyr
I woke up to find a notice on the door to the dormitory I shared with Loras, Kodin and Desmond. It was a Challenge Notice, written in very formal language. The recipient? It was for Kodin.
"Guys," I called out as I ripped the paper off the door and closed it. "There's a challenge notice, for Kodin."
*
The Honourable Kodin Honourpath of Rank Two Thousand Six Hundred and Seventy,
I, Rira Harpenhinder, Rank 3789, hereby challenge you to a duel on the Twentieth floor, Arena 63, at precisely noon today.
It would be highly inconvenient if you were to be late for this significant event.
Most Sincerely,
Lord Rira Harpenhinder of the Harpy Tribe.
*
Kodin's face drained of blood as he read the notice.
"Whats Harpenhinder?" Desmond asked with a look of confusion on his face. He did not recognise the name and honestly, neither did I.
"Harpies," Kodin answered, his voice trembled a little. "Specifically the branch of Harpies who work as Imperial Guards in the High Heaven."
"Glorified Murders," Loras muttered.
"And occasionally Bounty Hunters," Kodin said. "Harpenhinders are the branch of that tribe who went into Bounty Hunting."
"Ah, I see," Loras said as realisation hit him.
"See what?" I asked, looking as baffled as Desmond was.
"Warring factions in the Bounty Hunters is what this is," Loras said as he struggled to get himself out of bed. "Rira Harpenhinder wants something more along the lines of revenge and less along the lines of a higher rank."
Kodin seemed surprised that Loras knew of it, though neither cared to explain it to the less-connected members of the dorm such as Desmond and myself.
"Loras," Kodin turned to the Wanderer, "I need your help, please."
Loras deadpanned, I couldn't tell if he was waiting to hear more information or just politely rejecting Kodin's plea.
"I know you can do a lot, I can't win against a Harpy," Kodin's voice shook slightly despite his best efforts to hide his fear.
"You don't need to win," Loras said flatly.
"He'll kill me!"
"Come on, Loras," Desmond was helping Kodin now, "Kodin's our friend, we help each other out."
"No," Loras said simply, "there are no friends in the Tower. You want my help then you pay for it, just like everyone else."
"Fine, name your price," Kodin ran his hands anxiously through his platinum blonde hair. His golden eyes were now dull and darting all over the place.
"You can't afford my services," Loras snapped. "You Promise Gods have pissed off every decent soul in the entire Nine Rings. The only thing I can do for you is to stay out of it entirely."
Kodin swallowed and I took a sharp breath in. That meant that Loras had been approached to take action that would negatively impact Kodin during the fight. This was planned vengeance.
