Sonic woke up that morning, sweaty, confused, and honestly, really REALLY nauseous. He lay for a while, simply listening to the sounds of his heartbeat, and killer headache. He thought back to what could've caused this, and almost immediately regretted it. He fucked up, HARD. His stupidity and guilt quickly overwhelmed him. How was he supposed to proceed? How would he ever face Shadow again? Would anyone notice if they stopped talking and start suspecting something? Amy would definitely try to figure out what was wrong as soon as she noticed. Had Shadow already told someone? what if Shadow hated him now?? Sonic sat up and looked for his phone, which was tucked away in some far corner of his room. As much as he would love to re-read their conversation and wallow in his self-pity some more, Sonic had things to do. Not important things. But things nonetheless.
So, Sonic was the bigger person. He got up and followed his usual morning routine. He brushed his teeth, fixed his quills, and got ready to eat breakfast. But instead, of facing a delicious breakfast, he was face to face with his phone; which he dived after the moment he was done combing through his knotted quills.
Dead.
Great. So now he felt desperate AND stupid. Unable to do anything about it, he plugged in his phone and made his way toward the kitchen.
Tails was the cook of the household. Granted, he was the only one that knew how.
"Are you feeling better?" Tails asked, plating Sonic some pancakes with a side of fruit. "yeah? why wouldn't I be bud?" Sonic yawned, sitting down and eyeing his brother with a questioning look; taking the plate of food and cutting into it.
"you wouldn't shut up yesterday.. sounded pretty serious. I'm just concerned." Sonic stopped mid-bite and went completely still. "I thought- I thought that uhh- ahem -I thought you stayed over at Charmys?"
"Yeah something came up last minute and I had to leave early. I was going to tell you but you seemed.. errr.. 'preoccupied' ". Tails cringed and finished setting up his plate, taking a seat next to Sonic.
"aw man, I'm sorry dude I never meant to- ughhh." Sonic groaned pushing his plate aside and rested his head against the table.
"Hey don't worry about it." Tails said, patting his brother on the back. Tails recalled how frantic and upset his brother sounded yesterday. Not exactly angry, but more leaning on sad and disappointed. "besides, it's not me who we should be worrying about." Sonic lifted his head and huffed. "Still bud, you should've had to hear that. Hope you can forgive me" Tails sighed and went back to eating his food. "Like I said, it's fine. I'm here if you want to talk about it." "Tails-" "You don't have to. Just know that I'm here if you do." Tails looked over at Sonic, a small frown on his face. "We're best friends, aren't we? You can trust me. But I also understand that you have your privacy. Just- know that I'm always here for you. Because we're family."
Sonic smiled. "Thanks, little buddy. I do trust you, I'm sorry for ever making you doubt that." He shook his head and focused back on his now lukewarm pancakes. "we can talk about it later, I don't know about you but I'm boutta DEVOUR these pancakes." "Alright, don't eat too fast and choke again though." "That was ONE time." They both laughed and continued with their meal, making small talk in between every few bites. Maybe Sonic WAS overreacting. This was Tails. The person he's known since like- forever ago. If Sonic could trust anyone, it was him.

"you are incredibly dumb."
"TAILS- YOU SAID YOU WOULDN'T JUDGE ME!"
"Well, I lied. I'm judging you so hard right now."
