After Mattheo had sorted out things with her, their relationship began to shift from 'enimies' to 'acquaintances', or 'frenemies' perhaps, for they could not be called friends, they were constantly bickering, but they worked well together in potions and always got good marks.
Outside of classes however, the boy noticed that Adelaide was avoiding him, and he wanted to know why. They were in DADA, another class they had together. The bell rung and he quickly grabbed his belongings hoping to catch up to her. By the time he ran out of the classroom, she had disappeared down the hall.
Adelaide was once again walking with Harry, Hermione and Ron. Recently her and hermione had finally started to get along with each other, and so she would occasionally walk around with the trio. They were trying to persuade Adelaide to come to the quidditch game that weekend as it was slytherin against Gryffindor.
Then as they reached the gryffindor common room, they parted ways and Adelaide started making her way to Ravenclaw
She was thinking about the quidditch game, would she go? Would Mattheo be there? She wondered if Mattheo played quidditch when suddenly someone Grabbed her and put their hand over her mouth to muffle her shouts as they dragged her into an empty classroom behind them.
"Ah, what the fuck calm down potter." They cursed as she kicked them in the shins.
She could recognise that voice from a mile away and instantly turned around, smacking him in the arm
"Mattheo you prick what the hell are you doing?!" She exclaimed. "Oh, I just wanted to see why you've been avoiding me." He stated, looking in her eyes hoping to find an answer.
"I've not been avoiding you I've simply bee-." The look on Mattheos face instantly stopped her in the middle of her lie. Her face relaxed slightly.
"Fine. I've been avoiding you, I'm sorry."
"Why?" He asked
"Because..."
"Because?"
She sucked in a deep breath
"Is it true that Voldemort is your father?"
Mattheo looked taken aback.
"Him? Where did you get that from?" He forced a laugh. After a few minutes of silence he gave up.
"Fine!" He shouted dropping his arms at his sides, and smacking his thighs as he did so. "Lord Voldemort is my father. I- I'm nothing like him I swear."For a split second, Mattheo joker facade melted away and she saw who he truly was, before he put the walls back up. "Why didn't you say anything?" He asked. "Instead of avoiding me why didn't you say anything, I thought we were becoming friends?" He said softly
She looked at him with a small smile. "I am- well I hoped we were friends, it's just my brother- he made me promise not to be around you."
"But he can't make you promise shit." He laughed. "My father is a terrible person, and I can tell you I don't want anything to do with him- hell I don't even want to be associated with him."
Without thinking Adelaide hugged him.
He stiffened for a minute, unsure of what to do before he hugged her back. He smelled like cinnamon and expensive cologne mixed with a hint of smoke. She felt his tense body relax slightly, and they stood there like that for a good minute.
Eventually Adelaide pulled away, allow the wishes she didn't.
"Are you heading to your common room?" He asked, "I can walk with you- the dungeons are in that direction anyways."
She smiled and the two started making their way down the halls. Mattheo looked around as he walked, staring into nothingness, and his eyebrows were slightly furrowed, showing he was thinking about something.
"Are you coming to the quidditch game on Saturday?" He blurted.
Adelaide ripped her eyes away from the paintings she'd been staring at on the way down the hall and looked at him."No. Watching quidditch is boring."
His face faltered before something switched. "Well it's my first game at hogwarts so I was hoping you could maybe be there...?" He asked.
She pondered for a moment. "If I do, what am I getting out of it?""Well that's obvious Angel, you get to watch me play." He smirked at her.
They'd now arrived at the Ravenclaw common room and they stood outside.
"Can you please come?" He batted his eyelashes like a child as he pleaded"No." She stated firmly.
"Well, you just ignored me for a week so you have to make it up to me."
She sighed and rolled her eyes before answering the riddle and opening the door.
"Is that a yes, Potter?" He grinned.
She only answered with silence.
"That's a yes." He smiled to himself, and walked back around the way they came, to head to his common room.
