Chapter 2
| This is going to be a long ass day |
The phone rings with an agitating repetitive sound that no one will ever outmatch in annoyance. Its constant harassment of every bone in my body works well to wake me up but the fact that it takes away my dreamless sleep pisses me off. I'm careful not to answer the phone just to blow up at the person and quickly read the name. "Mr. Sheppard, would you like to explain to me why you have called at 5 am. I checked my schedule several times last night and only recall my earliest meeting being at 9 am". I say with a steady and calm voice. "Well, the Petermans called and wanted to reschedule this morning's meeting for 6 am. I'm truly sorry for the late call but I just got off the phone with them". The nervousness in his voice is apparent and as much as I would like to yell at him for waking me, I know he's my assistant and that it's his job to report these things. "Since you never stated a reason for the reschedule, am I right to assume they never gave one?" "That's correct Mr. Dellosa. While I kept persisting for a reason, they played it off as if they felt it would be easier for them to move it up and kept brushing me off with a cheery tone". So they basically thought little of my assistant and were neglectful of my time as well as his. I collected my thoughts before speaking again and made sure Sheppard knew this was no longer his concern and he could go back to bed.
"Hello, is this Mrs. Peterman". I say in a dead calm voice. "Yes, it is! I assume you got my message from that worker of yours, I'm sure they told you about how my voice is slightly off today and how I want to move this meeting up if you can!" She says it in a cheery tone and tried to make her speech sound jagged as soon as she starts mentioning her voice. The fact that she believes she kept a thorough lie is what pisses me off the most, not the fact that she's faking a happy tone with me but the thing is if you're going to lie then damn well make sure it's believable and the overtalking is making it obvious she's nervous. I take a deep breath in and slowly exhale, I read the time, 5:20 am, then respond. "Mrs. Peterman". I say and she immediately stops talking. "Yes," she says in an almost oblivious voice. "Though I am aware that your voice does sound less airy today, I ask that you keep our original meeting time and become more aware of how your actions affect others. Not only did you wake me up, you also woke my assistant up who has his own family and life so I don't appreciate you creating extra work for him. On top of this, you blatantly ignored any consideration for my schedule and took it upon yourself to only work the time of the meeting into your consideration. Lastly, you gave a moment's notice and only called with an hour to spare without thinking about transportation or preparation. Though I understand you are a busy woman, please understand you aren't the only busy person around. I can meet at 7 am before or try for 6:30 am the earliest. I do hope you understand why I've chosen this time and do realize that I've already come to the conclusion that you're trying to sell your husband's real state. While the offer could hold some benefit, it isn't entirely necessary and I would hope you try to plan out what you think will happen with the utmost consideration beforehand. I recommend some cough drops for your throat and do suggest you take the time to relax and drink some water. Your voice sounds quite parched and by the way you've stopped talking, I'm sure it's causing you a nuisance. If that's all, I look forward to seeing you later Mrs. Peterman, and all that you do. I'm sure your husband would be very proud of how you're looking after all he left you behind from above". I make sure I make it clear what I'm annoyed about but keep it professional and make the point look more like I'm considering others rather than myself. This way she becomes more guilty because It centers on other people and most people assume that people will act harshly for those they care about than themselves. Her response only confirms it. "A-ah yes, I'm sorry about that Mr. Dellosa, that was rather selfish of me. I can meet at 7 am like usual, I'll make sure to take your suggestions about relaxing into consideration thank you". Her response is sloppy and lacks proper edict the way she hangs up immediately without waiting for a response and by the way she trips over her words. I look at the time and it's already 5:40 am.
