The trio arrived at her mother's house, Kakashi was nervous about what they might be walking into. It hadn't really been a secret that they'd been seeing each other, but they also hadn't outright told Touka when they had met her during the summer.
And now, her mother wanted them to come over for Kakashi's birthday. TenTen opened the door. Kakashi didn't want to ruin TenTen's relationship with her mother-
"Hey, Mom!"
TenTen had been over here alone quite a few times, and even more times with Iruka over the summer. But Kakashi had been so busy that he hadn't been here since their arrival home.
Her mother was beaming as she came around the corner from the kitchen.
"Hey! Happy birthday, Kakashi!"
She hugged each of them, Kakashi first, even giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Come on, I have dinner almost ready!"
They entered the kitchen; Hidago, Touka's boyfriend, was here. That wasn't surprising since he moved in after TenTen moved out. He nodded to the man, who nodded back. Touka's boyfriend was a nice guy. He was quiet and kind, and TenTen seemed to really like him.
The four of them sat at the table and drank beer and talked. Touka had shooed them out of the kitchen, insisting they relax. Soon, they were being served miso soup with eggplant, soury fish, roasted bamboo shoots, and heaping mounds of rice. All of it was mouth-watering and delicious. And she remembered his favorite foods!
"Save room for dessert, Kakashi!"
He was trying; everything tasted so good!
"You've done way too much, Touka."
"Nah!"
They cleared the table after dinner with everyone helping. Kakashi felt incredibly warm as he helped put the food away. He'd had good birthdays since Iruka had been his partner, but nothing like this. He imagined that if he had a clan, it would feel warm like this.
Once they were done, Touka shooed him back to the table. He sat there next to Hidago, as the other three worked in the kitchen.
Soon, TenTen flipped the lights off. A cake was carried in, lit with candles. They sang 'Happy Birthday' to him, making him tear up. Touka set the cake in front of him and he blew out the candles, making a wish. Everyone cheered as Iruka flipped the lights back on.
The cake was white, with decorative white frosting and strawberries. He didn't even like cake, but he had two pieces. He had little treats on his birthday since he began dating Iruka, but a whole cake with a big birthday party felt unreal. He hadn't even had anything like this when his father was alive.
"Thank you so much, Touka."
She touched Kakashi's hand gently.
"You and Iruka are family."
He blushed.
"Thanks. That means a lot."
"You can just call me mom. I mean, you two are dating my daughter."
He looked over at Touka, who was smiling.
"Y-You're okay with that?"
"Of course! I've never seen my TenTen so happy. And she's loved and well cared for. She needs that extra love."
Kakashi hung his head, crying quietly as Touka spoke.
"Thanks, Mom. We do love her. We fell in love with her quickly and we knew she was fated to be a part of our little family."
