This day couldn't get any worse, Lia thought as she kicked the door of her minimalist abode until the sound it made was satisfying enough to channel the emotions burning in her solar plexus. A heavy sigh created a puff of mist in the cold apartment as if mocking Lia for always being lonely under her low roof.
This day couldn't get any worse, was the wrong thought even though Lia's footsteps were already as heavy as steel. The kitchen lighting up before she arrived was never a good sign and Lia could only stare at the woman who was flashing her a big smile.
She doesn't know how many eye-rolls it's taken, but Lia has lost count.
"This isn't your house, bitch."
Lia couldn't help but pretend to ignore the existence of the girl whose long hair was tied up too perfectly despite the state of the cookware in front of her being nothing more than a mess. The homeowner looked away, stepped across the room to open the fridge, and downed whatever was in there. The threads in her mind became more complicated and even though he did not look back, he more than knew that she was looking at her with a pair of twinkles that could make a criminal cancel her evil plans.
"Thanks for being here whenever I need you, don't you want to say that?" sneered the guest who Lia thought was clueless - perhaps forgetting the fact that she was the same person who made sure her stomach was full of real food, not just noodles and instant coffee.
Lia also chose to ignore that she had deliberately forgotten that part or any other part that showed how much this guest cared about her.
"Hwang Yeji, can you not," Lia growled, her elbow leaning against the fridge door and now finally facing the figure that had made her blood boil earlier. "Don't come to my house as you please"
If anyone sneered at Lia for not dating Yeji even though the girl followed her around like a puppy that lost its master, Lia couldn't really protest much. It could be said that Yeji had no flaws if Lia managed to throw away her unreasonable and-- honestly-- self-harming hatred. Whenever Lia looked at her, she was always greeted by a beautiful face with a pair of sharp eyes that smiled when the corner of her lips lifted. Her bushy hair was kept in a high ponytail for most of the day, making Lia secretly want to ask for hair care tips since hers always contributed the most litter on the floor of the room and bathroom. Yeji dressed appropriately for every time, every occasion, and every place. Her grades on campus were never flawed either, along with a pile of organizational activities that Lia couldn't name one by one unless she wanted to write a biography book.
Hwang Yeji was almost perfect, as said by every friend of Lia's who was desperate to snatch Yeji away from her. Lia will always say that Yeji is not hers, but what can it be?
Even without status, the two of them seemed more than just close friends.
"You're welcome." Yeji, still with her bright smile that never faded, turned on her heel to move some dishes from beside the stove to the dining table. Lia glanced over and found a large plate of wilted-looking stir-fried vegetables and some unevenly-cooked fried foods, but her sense of smell couldn't lie--those dishes were still far more appetizing than the instant food she cooked haphazardly whenever Yeji wasn't visiting. "I know you're hungry. Rough day, huh?"
