Rain dreaded this time coming; he had done everything to avoid having this conversation with his boss. He knows Venice has been letting him off the hook, but he's sure that he cannot etch his way out of this one.
"Have you placed the files needed tomorrow in my office?"
"Yes, I had it done, sir."
Rain tried to calm his nerves; he didn't know why he felt so anxious at the moment.
"Relax, Rain; there's no punishment if that's what you're thinking." Rain let go of the breath he was holding, yet he still found it hard to relax in his seat.
He felt his soul being lit up in fire; it was suffocating. "I feel the need to address what happened last time, Rain."
Rain knew he made a mistake; he should have seen it coming, but he didn't. Rain was too occupied with his little world to realize what was about to happen at that time.
"It was my mistake, sir," he admitted. He had no idea what had been going on with him for the past few weeks.
"No, Rain; alright, let us be more serious here." That made Rain look at his boss, confused as to why Venice disagreed. Normally, Rain takes the blame for things he did not even do in the first place.
As part of his role as Venice's assistant, he needs to ensure that everything's up to his master's liking if something's out of place. He's sure that Venice will not like it. So he's trying his best to cater to his boss' needs; none of the other assistants like him seem to figure out how to put up with their boss.
There are two things: either they are too cowardly to face a man like Venice, or Venice doesn't like how they breathe next to him. Which was the reason why Rain was chosen to shadow Venice in everything he does. Rain doesn't know how he does it, but he's been in this position for way too long; he must be at his best in his job for him to be still breathing.
"I am not blaming you; my father was right; I had been indulging in my selfish habits; I knew I was losing myself the past few days; I should have been more careful."
"What did I just hear?" Rain seems to be in disbelief after hearing those words come out of Venice's lips.
"Have my ears become faulty? Or is this divine intervention? Did Master Venice finally choose to be an ally of goodness?"
"Rain? Are you okay?" He doesn't know if he should be glad or scared by the way Venice is acting right now.
"No, this is not Master Venice." There's no way his psychopathic voice would be this kind.
"Am I hallucinating again?" Rain thought to himself.
"What was that? I didn't quite catch what you were saying." Venice furrowed his eyebrows, weirded out by how his assistant was acting at the moment.
"Fuck. Did he say that out loud?" Rain mentally cursed himself. He must have been hallucinating; there's no way that this is his master talking to him. "Put yourself together, Rain."
"What's that?" he asked, confused as to why there was a glass of water handed in front of him.
"Uh? This is water; why are you being weird, Rain? Did you hurt your brain or something?"
Sure, Rain does pray he hurts his brain because this is insanity. He accepted the glass of water despite his hands shaking. Venice watched his assistant drink the water, still weirded out by how Rain was acting.
"Did Storm do something again?" Venice tried to recall if there was something that might have caused Rain's actions; he recalled nothing but fractions of his memory when Storm unleashed his wrath on Rain, which, by the way, Venice has yet to apologize for.
