The Spotlight

Chapter 2

Ashley's POV:
It's been about three months and Sam still hasn't told you why he jetted up the stairs. Your phone starts to vibrate, it's Sam. "Hey Sam!" You answer. "HEY ASHLEY!!!!" Sam shouts with excitement. "Woah, Sam, shout much?" You say with a laugh. "Sorry, it's just that I was just invited to the CMA Awards! I've been nominated for the New Artist Of The Year Award!" "Sam, that's great!!!!!" You exclaim. You were really proud of him, he has worked hard for this. "Hey, guess what." He says. "What?" You reply. "I have an extra ticket, and I was wondering if you wanted to come to the CMAS with me for your birthday." You felt the excitement rush through you like a river. "YES I WOULD LOVE TO!!!" "Great!!!" Sam responds, you know by his tone that he is grinning ear to ear.

You think of what you'll wear and everything. It all seems overwhelming but it is also exciting at the same time. The CMAS are in a couple months and you already want to get ready for it. You stand up from your spot on the couch and go into your room. You get your laptop and start to look at dresses. After about an hour of searching, there is a nice, teal dress that catches your eye. After ordering it, you look through your closet and find a pair of white heels.

It's the day of the CMAS and your getting ready. You put on the teal dress and white heels. You have already done your make up, you did a nice smoky eye look and put on some eye liner. You check the mirror one last time before you hear your phone go off. Sam was around the corner from your apartment.

You hear a knock at the door. As you open it, you see Sam holding your CMA ticket and a box that was neatly wrapped with a bow on it. "HAPPY TWENTY SECOND BIRTHDAY ASHLEY!!!" You gasp, you didn't expect him to get you a gift since he was already taking you to the CMAS. "SAM! You didn't have to get me a gift!" You say. "Yes I did." He says with a smile on his face. "Open it." He says as his smile widens. You open the box and see a vinyl record. "SAM!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!" He knows how much you love Hunter Hayes. He had gotten you the Invisible vinyl record. "There's something else in the box." Sam says. You pull out a slip of paper that says:

Happy birthday Ashley! Hope you have a great day!!!

Under it, it says "turn it over" you turn the paper over and you gasp. On the back, it says:
Happy birthday!
- Hunter Hayes

"SAM!!! YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ALL THIS!!!" You exclaim. It's only five thirty and you're already having the best night of your life. As you both walk toward the car, you talk about who you think will win each award. Sam keeps saying he thinks someone else will win, but you think he will win. "I know you'll win, I have a gut feeling that you'll win." You say. You and Sam are about to arrive and you start to feel the excitement flow through your bones. "I'M SO EXCITED!!" you say with a huge smile on your face. You and Sam make your way back stage where everybody is. You are trying to be chill, but then you see Brett Eldredge come towards you and Sam. "Hey!" Brett says. "Hi Brett!" You say excitedly. You can't believe that you are surrounded by country stars. "I'll be right back." Sam says leaving you with Brett. You and Brett chat for about ten minutes. Sam makes his way back, but he isn't alone. You can't tell who the other person is, they are walking behind him.

"Ashley, I want you to meet a friend of mine, he is really nice and talented, I think you'll like him." Sam says as Hunter Hayes comes out from behind him. You are speechless, Hunter Hayes is standing right in front of you and you have no idea what to do. "Hi Hunter! I really love you and your music, I'm a really big fan!" You say. "Hey, it's nice to meet you, Ashley. Sam has told me a lot about you." You, Sam, Brett, and Hunter all take a seat and talk about music and other things.

Sam's POV:
Ashley has gone to meet a few country stars. "You're a really lucky guy." Hunter says. "Oh, she isn't my girlfriend. She is one of my best friends, I decided to bring her 'cause it's her birthday." "Oh, I see." Hunter responds. "She is really nice. She is also pretty." Hunter says. For some reason you feel a bit jealous. "Do I like Ashley?" You think to yourself. "Yeah. She is nice." You reply. It's almost time for the show to begin, all you could think about is that one question, "Do I like Ashley?"
