The Spotlight

Chapter 6

Ashley's POV:
I think of what Hunter said as I walk inside. "Call it a date." What did he mean by that? 'An ACTUAL date, or...' I stayed up thinking about it as the rain fell on the roof. My mind began to clear and everything was calm.

-the next morning-

I wake up to the sun shining right through my window and onto my face. I flip over to check the time, it's 10:30. I get up and head towards the kitchen. Opening the cupboard, I browse through the numerous boxes of cereal looking for Captain Crunch. As I pour the cereal into the bowl I hear my phone going off in the other room.

"Hello?" I answer it, not looking at who it was. "Oh, hey Sam!"
"Hey, uh, I was wondering what you were doing later." He says and I checked the date, I realize I have to work at 12. "I've gotta go to work at 12." "Oh ok, I guess I'll talk to you later then.." He says sounding a little disappointed and he hung up.

I check the time as I rush through the door, it's 12:05. "ASHLEY YOU'RE LATE!" I hear my boss yell from the other side of the pub and I'm praying that I keep my job. This is the 5th time this month I've been late. "Ashley, we need to talk." My heart races and I'm hoping that my boss will give me one more chance. "I'm sorry to say this, Ashley, but this is the 5th time this month you've been late and you seem to day dream alot." Yep. I might as well start looking for jobs now. "April, please give me one more chance, I promise I'll do better." I plead. "Ashley that's exactly what you said last time, I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to fire you." Great, just great. I grab my bag and walk back out to my car, I drive back home thinking how I'm gonna pay the bills and everything now that I have lost my job and jobs are getting hard to find nowadays.

I get back and flop onto my bed. 'On the bright side, I won't have to get up early anymore.' I think to myself. I sit up and start looking around my room, my eyes lock on my guitar and I'm reminded of my dream. 'Maybe...' I think to myself. I find my notebook and guitar and flip through the pages looking for one of the songs I wrote.
