Chapter 12

"And where have you two been?"

"I was just with a friend," Lauren smiled when she internally remembered the events that happened earlier. Chris paid no attention to Clara's question and walked straight to his room. On the other hand, Lauren sat on the kitchen counter next to her mom where she was rolling out cookie dough.

"Alright, who's the girl?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," Lauren responded while dropping a couple of chocolate chips into her mouth.

"That smile isn't fooling anybody," Clara laughed. "Spill it."

"Well, you kinda met her already..."

"Who?"

"Camila," Lauren confessed hesitantly. Lauren thought her mother was going to give her a long lecture on how her relationship could possibly cause problems with the family in the long run. But instead, Clara busted out in laughter.

"You stole her...from Chris?!"

"Stole what from me?" Chris asked, walking into the kitchen for some water.

"Oh, nothing," Clara responded casually. She turned back to Lauren to give her a wink along with a thumbs up. Lauren shook her head while laughing and looked down at her phone when she felt a vibration.

Camila: BBQ tomorrow at my place with the fam. My parents have been wanting a small gathering with yours for a while so wanna come? :)

"Anyways, Camila just texted me about a barbecue they're having tomorrow, could we go?"

"Of course!" She replied and continued baking. Lauren gave a faint smile before she ran upstairs.

Lauren: we'll be there ;)

"Just head down past the kitchen," Alejandro instructed the Jauregui's. Lauren, Chris, Mike, and Clara walked past the kitchen and into the extensive backyard. The first thing visible was a huge patch of grass, big enough to have a mini golf course.

By the grill was Sinu roasting some vegetables and Alejandro walked over to begin cooking some burgers. Clara and Mike walked towards the two parents to help out and Chris took a seat on a provided bench.

In the corner of Lauren's eye, she saw Camila playing tag with her little sister on a mini playground. Camila was attempting to climb a yellow slide in order to chase her sister, but Sofi laughed every time that Camila slipped.

"Having trouble?" Lauren asked teasingly as she approached Camila. Camila hit her head on the outer top part of the yellow tube when she heard Lauren's voice.

"Well hello to you too," Camila groaned while applying pressure to her head. Lauren shook her head while laughing and moved over to the stairs to join Sofi.

"Hey, Sof!"

"Hi, Lauren! Come up here!"

Following the eight year old's instructions, Lauren carefully climbed the play set on the ladder and finally reached the top.

"I swear this is gonna collapse any minute," Lauren mumbled while trying to position herself. This play set was not meant for anyone past age 10.

"Sofi! I'm gonna get you!" Camila yelled while attempting once again to climb up the slide. The thick tube echoed Camila's voice and rumbled when Camila took an inch closer to the exit.

For the next fifteen minutes, the three girls enjoyed themselves. Every time Camila actually made it to the top of the slide, she was pushed back down by a laughing Lauren.
