Although the lady forbade Virginia of meeting Ben, they still did. The girl started avoiding her lady even more, she did not come out of her room for long hours. In contrast, the kids became even closer friends. They knew there was a real world waiting for them, but they did not want it. Virginia and Ben were hiding and running away from reality, trying their best to hold together the brittle world they have created. Wrote texts and played theatre in the attic. The dog was their innocent companion. Both kids tried so hard to be happy, but every day, their childish bubble became thinner, and the knife edge sharper.

One day, Ben did not come. He didn't arrive on morning and didn't arrive when the lady was gone. Day passed. Two. Week. The fields were uncultivated, apples unharvested, garden neglected. The lady employed another boy, but that one was white and never talked. He replaced Ben so easily, and he did not even know.

Virginia was miserable.

"Well, at least you aren't going to kill your time with that son of a bitch. Your future is waiting!", the lady was telling her.

The girl was quiet. Why should she care? There was nothing to care about. The lady was a monster. Her parents were gone. Ben disappeared. And the dog... well, he was just a dog.

At first, Virginia thought that Ben only could not come because of something temporary, but now she began to realize, that it was serious. And the strangest was that no one talked about him. How could he simply vanish? What happened to him?  the girl was asking herself. She had no answer.

Two months passed, and Ben had not showed up no more.
