Our Awkwardness

Chapter 7

They parted, Gumball seemed to be dazed. Dray reached his hand to touch gumball's forehead. He brushed the hair away from his forehead and felt gumball's temperature, it was high. "Wh - why would you ... do that?" Gumball panted. Dray wasn't sure if he was this way because of the kiss or something else. "Gumball are you ok?" He was worried. Gumball was very flushed, the tint of pink turned to a deeper shade of red. His eyes were shut while he panted. He looked up at Dray with dazed eyes. "Why do you think I'm in the nurses office? ... I'm going through my heart cycle and... And you just made it worse!" Gumball fisted Dray's shirt as he panted. Dray was surprised, he didn't know what to do. He should be feeling guilty but of course he isn't. Instead he smiled gently at the feline boy in front of him. "Gumball... Wait for me after school ok? I'll come get you!" Saying that dray left Gumball on the bed to rest and left the office.

The school day continued as usual but when Dray went back to class Clare noticed that his mind was elsewhere. She waited till the teacher finished the lesson to go to Dray's seat and talk to him. "so... What's wrong with you?" She asked as she sat down on the seat besides him. Dray looked confused. "Huh?" He asked. "Don't 'huh' me! Why are you daydreaming? You've been out of it ever since you got back from seeing gumball, plus you have this stupid smile on your face!" Clare explained trying to get Dray to speak. He tapped his fingers on his desk for a moment before he spoke. "Clare, I'm going to need you to get a ride home with someone else today!" He said. "Why?" Clare looked at him suspiciously. " Well I could give you a ride home before going where I want to go.......... Wait no! That's not a good idea, unless you want to get into a small space with two awkward boys having extremely awkward tension after what happened earlier today?" Dray looked at Clare, Clare looked at Dray. They looked at each other. "Drayson... What did you do?" She asked. "I can't say" Dray replied.

Clare sighed in defeat. " Fine.... I don't know what happened or what you did but you better solve whatever it is cuz you need to pick me up tomorrow morning for. My car is going to take a while to get fixed." Dray smiled " I will. I asked my brother to let me borrow his car till yours gets fixed remember? You don't have to worry about a ride" Dray reassured Clare. " But here I am looking for a ride home... You better tell me what is going on with you tomorrow " she left. As dray watched his friend leave he sighed and thought about what he's going to do about the situation he caused with Gumball.

In the meantime Darwin couldn't stop fidgeting. He was worried, worried what gumball will do when he sees Penny in class right now. He really hoped Gumball wouldn't leave the nurse's office till the school ends maybe then he could give Gumball a warning. Since it's Friday maybe Gumball will have the entire weekend to prepare to deal with Penny. ' Yeah that should work right? Please don't come to class Gumball!' Darwin thought to himself. "Darwin!! I have been calling you for a while now, why are so distracted? Are you still worried about the whole Penny thing?" Carrie said as she looked at a worried Darwin. "How bad can it be for Gumball to find out about Penny being back in town? " Darwin tried to calm himself. " Carrie you don't get it, Gumball was hurt when Penny broke off their relationship. I don't want to see Gumball go back to how he was when she left. I'm worried" Darwin tried to explain. Gumball is his best friend and brother, he doesn't want to see him have to deal with the feelings he had back then. It was hard to see him like that.

"Hey Darwin." Penny said as she walked up to the two. They both looked up at her and waited for her to speak. " I don't see Gumball in class, is he not in school today?" She rubbed her arm feeling nervous about what she's asking. " Uh... Yes?" Darwin said. Carrie just face palmed, Darwin isn't the best liar so there's no way Penny is going to buy that. But all of a sudden the door to the classroom opened. Gumball dragged himself inside coming back from the nurses office. He was feeling a lot better but it's take some time for his ears and tail to go back. He walked to Darwin's seat and saw him panicking. He was so pale that he almost matched Carrie's complexion. Gumball walked closer and noticed the two darting their eyes up and then to him. He looked in the direction they kept glancing at and noticed. He stopped right there, not even daring to take one more step.

Penny saw Gumball. She smiled a little and walked closer to Gumball. It everything in Gumball not to start walking backwards. "Hey Gumball" she spoke to him. "... I'm back". Gumball laughed awkwardly " heeey! I - I can see that!" Gumball looks at Darwin. "I'm sorry man I tried to give you a heads up... I really tried!" Darwin said feeling disappointed in himself. Gumball looked back at Penny. He didn't know what to do or what to say. His head was all over the place at that moment.

The school bell went off signaling that the day was over. Everyone in class was already packing up their stuff and heading out but Gumball and the other three didn't move from their spots. Gumball couldn't leave because he was too shocked, Penny was trying to talk to Gumball, Darwin couldn't possibly leave Gumball alone in this situation and Carrie had to wait for his overly sensitive boyfriend. "Gumball!!" He heard his name being call and turned to see who it was. Dray was standing in the doorway ready to leave the school. " I told you to wait for me in the nurses office Why'd you leave?" He asked. Gumball took that as an opportunity to run. He took his bag and went straight to Dray. He pulled him along and they ran off to the parking lot of the school. Dray was confused as to why they were running. Darwin finally breathed a sigh of relief and stood up. "Finally we can go" he took Carrie's hand and walked out of the class.

Penny just stood there.... Alone.
